These guys were the real deal. The were great, but they were on the verge of such incredible greatness and were getting ready to explode. It is sad that Bradley died, who knows how big it would've become. They were the epitome of the entire old so-cal feel, beach, bud, music, attitude, waves, surf, boarding, skating, reggae, punk, anti-system, anti-establishment, beach bum, bad boy not giving a shit band. Except they really had the talent, sound, spirit, soul, look , feel and it factor going for them all the way...................damn I could go on.
Sublime would have been extremely successful and active going into the late 90’s and early aughts. Sublime would have been been similar to No Doubt in mainstream popularity. I could see Sublime playing at Woodstock ‘99. Gwen Stefanie and Bradley were close friends so it’s well within reason to believe they would have worked together on each others albums often as close musicians do and maybe even when she went solo she probably would have wanted Bradley to produce a track or contribute vocals on certain songs. When you remove a death from the equation and add maturity - even the most mysterious and alluring high profile individuals who met tragic endings would eventually experience enough danger in life and the success they receive would eventually calm them down. Bradley Nowell was a great musician - even when people try to skewer Sublime as a glorified cover band etc. There is no denying that they created special music together and have a great recognizable sound.
Brad had talent oozing out of him. He could play so sloppy, but every note had passion and brilliance. It was like the music flowed through him when he performed and he was there to channel it.
we did not know how special this day would become. I was and emplyee at the groove tube. thats my bike. hahah I fix his mic. epic. I hung with Bradley later on in California, working for Lost surfboards.
@@current3109 Groove tube shut down a long time back, it moved near Boardwalk where Surfinista is now, then it went outta business. Groove Tube turned into “the goods” surf shop owned by the Hobgoods, they shut that down too. The building is still there, right next to Dos Amigos
Great footage here. When I see Sublime play it reminds me of Nirvana and early Guns ' N Roses for the fact that when they played live there was an element of danger there like they could just fall apart at any moment. But at the same time you when you could be witnessing a performance that could change your life.
@@Angelica-yr9tj I know!!! I visited last year and it was an awesome experience blasting sublime at a location that was once full of people jamming to their music
Treg Burris he’s great but that’s just samples played on Roland pads, although I can’t tell if he even has the electronics set up there. He used them though
@@beyer66 they're not set up here, but yes Bud did use Roland electronic pads programmed with a few different samples quite often starting sometime in '95, however as far as i'm aware he only sampled cymbal and tom sounds? but i literally have no source for that so he very well could've also used them for the reverb, i'm just going off of live shows i've watched
So Cal punks finest! That Irresistible sound that grooves and inspires , still to this day..... fuck I miss the 90's ! Life Won't ever be that good again.....
@tmart2005 just ran across this. Not many, it was an odd place for a show really, it was in the small parking lot of a stand alone surf shop right on A1A which if youre not familiar with it is a well known road that runs parallel to the Atlantic ocean. Dont go beachside often these days but last I knew it changed owners and is now called "the goods" in Melbourne beach Fl. might give you an idea of how small the area was on google maps if they havent expanded parking.
@@Ryattt81 the goods shut down, there is/was a small church using the building now, the groove tube didn’t survive either, it moved in next door to Bizzarros and lasted a bit and then shut down too
If anyone is curious, they are filming the intro in the parking lot of what was "Cantina Dos Amigos at 990 N Hwy A1A in Indialantic, FL" which recently closed..It's now Kahlo: Mexican Grill.
I don’t know why this hasn’t gotten more views but….. wtf it’s just Brad being Brad and he was so f***** special for being in the right place at the right level and the right coordinates in life. And what else do I have to say? SUBLIME 4EVER❕❕❕
These guys had the "it" factor that can't be taught. Not just Bradley gave Sublime there sound. Eric Wilson on bass, you kidding me. And Bud on drums, those boys are violent on stage.Real deal
SLOW ride reminds me of when I was in my early 20s getting high on pain killers and drinking beer in the summer at my old apartment lol been sober 5 years now but I can distinctly remember those days.
and to think i liked sublime and lived in this town when this happened and went to the groovetube for cd's and sexwax, too bad i was 10 and probably skateboarding at a stripmall when this happened. Oh well life is quite interesting.
I was 18, always in Brevard surfing and in the Groove Tube but missed this. Now I actually live in Salt Lake LOL, it's pretty sick snowboarding and outdoors lifestyle if you can handle the Mormon influences. 90's was the underground era of snowboarding here so I understand the scene he's referring to.
