This version sounds a lot more polished than the classic and I wonder if this was the original intended version, given the classic feels a lot more raw compared to the songs on rest of the self-titled album.
He was going to take rock music to fun new places. The whole alternative grunge thing was fading out, this was going to be the new direction..instead Sugar Ray took the flame.
The original has an opening drumbeat, the solo on this is done on an electric guitar rather than acoustic, the tempo on this is slower, it uses less samples, it feels more polished, it doesn't have that organ sounding instrument in the background, it has a distorted electric solo at the end which the original doesn't.
