Its a fiber, have you tried to use a rope as a pole and realized it folds? If you have and recognize why its not standing upright like your sock does, then you'd know that using the resin-bonded supermaterial that makes supercars work is a dumb idea when under compression its relying entirely on the strength of the resin and nothing more, because fibers bend effortlessly under compression loads.
