-10+i(4)+i(2)+4=0. -6+6i=0. i=1A. Therefore, Drop across 4-ohm res is 4V, and of 2-ohm res is 2V. The total voltage drop across both the resistors is 6V and with 4V voltage source in series gives the actual voltage source i.e; 10V. Therefore substitution-3 can be used.

no, linear-only. except for the branch you're looking at, there it does not matter, since you deactivate it anyway.
