I found a new way to get videos done more quickly, Gary. Basically it involves not procrastinating! I may be able to do them more often, but I probably won't (unless I have to!)
I didn't tell the whole story, adz! I was cutting it and for some reason, I could not get the shape right. It turned out that there was one of those soft areas right in the middle. (I thought that I was losing it .... but that's not possible, right?)
I love watching your videos because you take the time to tell us about the different opals, the way they are formed, their flaws, etc. Thank you so much for taking the time to do that. I would love to give Hizz a home!
Always a happy day when I see a new Pulitzer opal video. Pity about that Honduran opal , but love the others. Thanks Colonel, I look forward to your next escapades in opal.
I can’t wait to graduate from Pulitzer Opal University! Everything I ever needed to know about opals I’ve learn from watching this channel. Thank you for your informative & helpful videos! 😊
Maybe I should get some diplomas … no ID cards, because school is still in session, right. I’m a retired professor (med school), so I guess I’m the Dean here
I know you’re a professional, highly skilled cutter when the ones you’re disappointed in would end up in the top 5 of my best ever. Loved the video, already looking forward to the next!
I always love your sarcastic sense of humor. Thank you for another entertaining video. I love all of the final stones. Hizz might not have as much color, but I think she's absolutely gorgeous. I think that a layer of resin would definitely be the way to go with Hondo.
Your videos are a wonderful surprise that always makes the day better , have you ever played with spencer Idaho opal? Really thin color bars but makes some beautiful stones
The Honduran opal is amazing looking stuff. I had never heard of it. Thanks so much for showing us. I'm glad the foal is OK. The crash looked horrific. Thanks you again for all the videos, information and humour. Always brightens my day.
I came for he opal and was rewarded with a gaggle of awesome cats! I am a horse person and think Opal would be a fantastic name for a really cool colored horse. My own horse is a black bay....I bought him already registered with the name Zephyr. Still continuing my arrowhead journey. As a final thought, Hizz reminded me of mother of pearl....gorgeous!
Hubby and I both get excited when we see that Pulitzer has a new video out. The way you mix beautiful Opals and purdy cats is simply a thing of Beauty!!!! Keep up the great work... And just an fyi I have a beautiful place all set up for Hizz to come and stay if they need a place. Just saying!
I to have a cat but he's feral mostly he likes me enough that he let's me feed him tuna and dry food and pull the ticks he gets. He very rarely loses a fight and he will let me heal him up. I took him to the vet once (big mistake) to get fixed they said he would become a house cat...right. He has fiv and is not doing so good with his breathing and his little nose and eyes water. It breaks my heart to see this. They tell me there is nothing I can do but just love him. Not sure why I'm sharing this but I see your videos and how much you love your cats and was sure you could relate. Love the passion you have for your craft and really appreciate the videos you share with the cat friends you live with. Thank you.
I would be thrilled to adopt any of these orphans in need of a loving home!! I have the ability to shape and polish, and create a lovely piece of jewelry that I would wear and treasure, or give to a grandchild, who would also treasure it. Two of my grandchildren even have opal as their birthstone! The foal is adorable. I am happy to hear that they only got a bruise. Growing up can be rough.
I would happily give Hizz a new home especially if she is letting the side down at your house. Your expertise in the realm of opals is, as always, appreciated and I love the feeling of knowing your intuition is correct, there was absolutely a crack.
Thanks for explaining how you find and work around opal cracks. Also, for telling us about Honduran basaltic opal. Of course, the kitties are always fun to watch. Their antics distract me enough that I lose focus on the opal cutting and have to rewind. And that foal - holy moly! I would panic attack if my horse baby went through a fence.
I loved Hondo! He deserves a coating of epoxy - not like he's so valuable that it will diminish him any. Thanks for the great opal lessons. I learn so much!
Seam opal is just the way it comes, and has nothing to do with the type of opal. Seam opal comes in relatively thin pieces that are flat on the top and bottom. Most of the Australian opal that I deal with comes as seams, including jelly opal, crystal opal, etc.
OMG - besides opals I really love horses - and the little one's "adventure" seemed to be rather dangerous! 😢 Glad you assured us he is still fine! ❤ Such a pity with the Honduran opal - I absolutely love black background! 🥰
Dying to get back to cutting again, moving house and cant set up the work area for a while yet. Another cool video, you always seem to pull out something I havent seen yet.
Horse zoomies are usually more dangerous to the horses than the home. Glad the foal was ok! Cat zoomies are usually more dangerous to my home. 😂 I loved the Honduran opal, but sad that is kind of loses its luster when dry. Thank you again for all the incredible information and adorable fuzzy things!
@@PulitzerOpal I don’t, I stalk the auction site and window shop what I would and wouldn’t buy. Mostly based on what you’ve taught me. Maybe one day I will have expendable cash to get one or will come across a massive bargain. Until then I can play pretend.
They are all pretty stones in my eyes. Nice one Don. I’ve been away on family business, & yet to respond in email to our last chat. I’ll explain more in the email. Congratulations to the lucky winners, who are no doubt also grinners. 😊
You never cease to amaze me with such beautiful opals. I believe God created opals just for his good pleasure. I believe opals are the colors of what Heaven looks like. Thanks for sharing Your kitties, the foal over the fence (poor baby!) and some opal I have never seen before. You Rock.
It must be so disappointing when you have what you believe is a quality piece & it doesn't polish to expectation. I may not be an expert on all things opal, but I believe that no matter how bad it may turn out, there's always someone who will admire the colors that appear, even if it's got podge or sand inclusions! Great stuff, as always, Mr. P! I love that shield shaped opal, it sure is a beauty & it's no wonder you have that as your profile pic!
Hi, Trish. I DID expect better out of the Honduran opal, but upon reflection, I should not have. I may coat it with epoxy just to see what might have happened. The other one ... the yellow/green one was not the highest grade opal, but it came out okay. The Rainbow Shield is in the pendant that I gave my wife for our daughter's wedding. She is our only daughter ... but I still have 3 boys who are not yet married! That pendant is very fine - opal and diamonds ... what do you expect? That opal now costs $60K USD per ounce (so the piece that I bought would be $20K today ... I paid $5K). Inflation is constant in the opal market ... even when everything else is cheap!
@PulitzerOpal I'm not surprised at it's worth, Mrs P is a very lucky lady indeed to have a husband with an exceptional talent of eeking the best out of rough opals!
I wish I could win anything from you. I love your videos. Watching you work with each piece is so fascinating. The cats are so cute. That little horse is adorable, but hopefully doesn't have any more fence incidents 😅. Love from Alberta Canada 🥰🖖.
It seems that I don't get any of your channel notifications on time. But all is not lost. I love watching all the kitties, the orange ones just have a oddly personality, Just like me 😂
Wonderful opals, Mr. P 👋💎👍! I love the cute cats you have as well as that little firey courageous foal ( maybe he or she will be a good jumper one day too ), your friend have! Greetings to you dear Mr. P with family and pets from me in Sweden 🇸🇪😊❤️!
Thanks, Susanne! I don't know very much about horses. That was probably the first time it ever tried to jump, an only did because there was a fence in the way! My friend has very good horses, so I expect it to grow up into a fine animal. I have never been to Sweden ... but I have been to Denmark and Iceland. It gets really cold in Sweden, I think ... compared to Denmark, Norway and Iceland .... I think.
@PulitzerOpal In Sweden winters can be cold, especially in the northern parts! I live in the most southern county of Sweden called Skåne or Scania. The town I live in is built by the strait of Öresund ( the strait who divides Sweden from Denmark ), and I can see Copenhagen from my windows. Today, it's warm day here, and we will have temperatures around or slightly above 30 degrees Celsius. In winter, we can get if it's a cold winter -15 degrees, but usually we have - 2 to -3 degrees cold up to around +5 normally. We have a more humid climate than the northern parts of Sweden have, too. It's a sweatty day here🌡🌞😰😓! Take care 👋♥️👍
Nice job, that hondo opal is weird stuff. I think you did a good job on the seem opal, look like a nice stone to me. Thanks for sharing, hope your grand child is doing well.
Love the videos!!!! Not to mention all the knowledge bombs you drop- thanks as always! And winning an opal sure would make my bike accident hernia feel better! ❤😂❤😂❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hey Pulitzer, loved the video. I was wondering if you can shed some light onto the harness of opal. I have always heard that Brazilian and Mintabie material is the hardest, but how much harder is it really? I know opal ranges from 5.5-6.5 but was wondering which localities fall the high and low ends of that range.
Thank you for introducing me to two opals that i knew nothing about, the leopard and Honduran. I had never heard of either before. Now I'm looking for some. You're a bad influence on my opal addiction. 😅
Such a generous man you are Donald. This weeks stones were certainly a surprise.still, i love your work as usual and ps. The colt has a bit of training needed before it wins a kentucky derby.
If you put a clear coat paint on the Honduran Opal would it help it hold some color? Can you do that with stones , kind of like clear coating wood to bring out the grain?
So many cats, and not one called 'Opal'. Though I have vague recollections of one called 'Potch'. Of course, I may be misremembering. Great vid., Colonel.
