@@ClueSign What I find disturbing and even painful is how Tom keeps trying to connect with Shiv and how she always pushes him away, like it's almost sadistic. I wonder if the interaction would be any different if Tom beolonged to the same circle.

@@cbojorquez It is disturbing how she is so aggressively cruel and dismissive of him; so willing to sacrifice him to the political machinations of her father, and even willing to exploit his love by declaring she wants an open marriage, but only AFTER they wed. Not nice.

@@ClueSign cruel, yes, but not that surprising given her upbringing. ): Succession is such a tragedy. No matter how dickish they are, I feel really bad for the Roy children. They were raised in a veritable minefield, formative years ripe with emotional abuse from their domineering father and otherwise antipathetic mother. Love was seen as a weakness, vulnerability, something to exploit; likewise, relationships were transactional, just another facet of business where there’s a winner and loser. As a result, Shiv can’t bring herself to open up to Tom. That would mean going against the (sad, messed up) values instilled in her practically from birth. I believe that Shiv loves Tom (Sarah Snook and MattMac have said as much), but she has such poor interpersonal effectiveness skills that it comes across as a cruel kind of half-love. As sad as it is, it’s really entertaining to watch. And it also highlights the disparity between Tom’s relationship with Shiv, who pushes him away, and Greg, who validates and strokes Tom’s ego. No wonder he loses his cool every time Greg stands his ground. That’s his emotional support egg.

Both actors are gifted with such awesome roles. Their dynamic doesn't feel unfamiliar, but I can't think of another show that's portrayed a relationship like this. They also help function more as audience surrogates, even central protagonists, since they're witnessing all the insanity from an outsider perspective.

Best dynamic duo in the show. Both Tom and Greg are actually very alone and misfit in this big mess of Roy family circus where everyone is busy in backstabbing another. Nic is right they both need someone in their lives to rely on. Very well written characters. Matthew is an incredible actor & Nic is very sweet. I would love to see them leaving Waystar Royco & setting up their own company together.

Ignoring regional accents, this does highlight to me that Macfadyen, unlike most of the main cast, doesn't sound/feel like his character naturally and has to do some 'real' acting to get there. Braun here comes across not too different from Greg. That's not a knock on the other actors; they just happened to be cast to their natural qualities.

The Plaza is the location for that shot of Logan and Stephen Root meeting with Michelle-Anne in the "weeks ahead" trailer (0:20 in this video). A bunch of American flags on the table. Must be some political fundraiser event. Ken's birthday is probably taking place at The Shed in Hudson Yards, they've been said to film there and Ken's penthouse is in Hudson Yards. In the trailer you can see that his birthday is taking place in some glass warehouse type venue so I wouldn't be surprised if it was The Shed.

I just finished and this is my favorite couple, but Greg was a pure delight to watch. I really feel so much more could have been done with his character instead of him essentially becoming Tom's bitch. Greg was truly clever (using Google to translate Swedish, etc.) and his character could have become so much more ruthless. Still was amazing to watch these two. Just a gift. And thank you, Writers!
