Looks like I am in good company! It's a puzzle, all this matching of watering, light requirement and pots! I do like bigger statement plants in their own pot - really standout, but I've recently tried mixing a few little growing babies in smaller arrangements and they do look so cute!

This is a great video! Especially since there are other Plant-Tubers I've seen who will make arrangements and not only jam in there as many plants as physically possible (like 11 different baby cuttings into a 1inch pot!!) ; but also combine varieties and sizes without any mention of the different care needs or period of dormancy. This really leads to the erroneous beliefs that succulents and cacti "thrive on neglect " or "they ALL need the same care". I'm sure many people will have a better idea of what their own arrangements need with this video! ♡

Grouping succulents is definitely challenging. I have mostly gone with the trial and error method and some have worked and others not...mostly it’s because I don’t have a ton of room for small individual pots so try to combine them. Some are really taking off though, so happy they are not all fails 😋

I really enjoy grouping succulents and while it can be very rewarding, as you said, it's not always successful. Some of my more successful arrangements tend to include various plants in the same species. For instance, I have pot of three very different aloe growing together and another with various gasteria. I'd also love to make another pot of fuzzy kalanchoe to replace the ones I lost to the winter storm. But it's also fun mixing species and one of my favorites is a mix of zebra plant (Haworthia fasciata) on one side, Tiger Jaws (Faucaria tigrina) taking up a third of the space, and a variety of Haworthia emelyae snuggled up against it.

I have one pot that has multiple plants and it has been a trial and error experience. Soak and dry method is what I stick to and I make sure that all the plants in the pot need the same amount of watering. Your container tip is very helpful for adjusting to slightly different watering needs. I just wish I could get all my plants to get bigger. I have grow lights on for twelve hours and keep track of watering as needed (by looking at their leaves).

I learn the soak and dry method from one of your earlier videos and I love it. Do succulents like to be crowded in with other succulents ?
@Succulentsandsunshine
@Succulentsandsunshine 3 года назад
They can go either way. More space between succulents gives them more room to grow and spread. Planting them close together slows down the growth and will keep them a little smaller. It just depends on what you want them to do :)

So you don’t necessarily plan ahead to use only succulents that need the same needs with sun and water in an arrangements? I’m new and have been dreading even thinking about making an arrangement. Part of my problem is that I don’t know what many of my little succulents are and am trying to identify them still. Thanks for the video. I think I can relax a bit with your cheat sheet and not worry as much. Love the cactus one!.
@Succulentsandsunshine
@Succulentsandsunshine 2 года назад
It is best practice to plan ahead what the lighting and watering requirements are for the succulents you are combining. However as this video shows you can also still combine completely different succulents and still have them grow together. They may not all thrive as well though in these types of arrangements. They key to making it all possible is well draining soil and using a pot that wicks away the moisture from the soil. Glad the video was helpful as well as the cheat sheet!
