this old 68 coronet highway patrol car is a cool piece of police history when the chaser and the chase' were on the same playing field, both big block high horsepower muscle cars. in just 4 short years after this car the HP number were cut in half and the squad cars gained 500lbs

What Police package does that 68 have? It's the first I've ever seen that didn't have a 140 mph "Certified" speedometer and mine and my Father before me have owned and were interested in since my Father's unicorn special project 61 Plymouth with 3-2 bbl 392 Hemi 3 speed manual, which had a. Certified speedometer 7 years prior to your 68. Not saying it wasn't a.madh up of parts on a group of cars that were put together on the assembly line with various parts from the regular parts bin to check out the viability of certain parts compatibility, and those cars were put into active police use. My favorite ever, 71 Dodge Polara, high speed pursuit package which was highway centered, it had a 2:78 (or close, just not that vivid a memory but it was 2:7 something and it'd shift into second at 72 and third at 110 and would wrap the needle around to.thf stop on the 140."Certified" speedometer. Yes I too loved that sound of the thermoquad, that turned more heads than other cars with exhausts, but to be fair, the after market exhaust market was all.based on a glass pack that only made more noise, it didnt add HP but there were two factory mufflers that were designed to actually flow, the Hemi Mufflers were it, they were what you wanted but the cost! Arghh I remember a buddy trying to buy the mufflers from another buddy that had put headers on his Hemi roadrunner and just race it. The other muffler was a Corvair Turbo muffler, hence why high perf aftermarket mufflers were called Turbo mufflers because people had been buying Turbo mufflers from GM parts and they pretty well copied the design. I didn't mean to deep dive on mufflers, I meandered talking about that incredible induction sound of a 375 hp 440 powered Cop Cars and herd in Florida all State Troopers cars were those bad ass Mopars

The old Mopar cop cars rule! Back when I was 13, the county I lived here in Nebraska-the Sheriff and 3 Deputies drove 70 440 powered musclecars, the Sheriff had a dark green 70 Charger R/T, one Deputy had a Hemi Orange 70 Coronet R/T, another a Plum Crazy 70 Super Bee, and there was another one. All had the 2 red lights on the light bar. It was a pretty cool time. Most of the cop Mopars around here were C Bodies, better highway cars. Any B Bodies were usually used in towns. I drive a 71 Polara , 2 dr hdtp, ex-Nebraska State Patrol car. I found it in a salvage yard, it sat quite a few years. Got it back on the road in 2014 and have put 16,000 miles on it the last 10 years. It has the correct light bar withthe red lights and the long whip antenne. It's got TTI exhaust and a NOS Thermoquad and a 2.76 SureGrip for Interstate driving. It's so much to drive and everyone loves it.

Just for context; $250 in 1972 is about $1900 today with inflation. Back then it was probably a running driving car. Now the motor won’t turn and it probably needs a complete restoration. I guess “amazing price” depends on whether you are paying - or getting paid. It’s what the market will bear, anyway.

I was never able to purchase one but saw some mighty cool Mopars. The best ones were special Hwy Patrol 440 cars with all the goodies. Nice that you found this one and found and owner. In 1968 we were headed from Ft Dix to Philadelphia International Airport in a stretched Checker station wagon. I happened to notice that a car was keeping pace beside us in the multilane traffic, it had a neon-type light in in drivers rear side window that the officer could turn on - "PULL OVER" with lights above deck on rear seat. The drivers side door in white block letters said: Pennsylvania State Police Turnpike Interceptor. He was running a 426 hemi. A Corvette blew by us in traffic and it sound like the hemi was going to suck the hood through the carburetor. Several miles down the Corvette puked out in a cloud of steam.

The car had a prepped Torqueflite Automatic with a Holeshot Torque converter and a high speed rear end, good for over 150 mph. I drove it and raced it for 3 years, and made a LOT of money racing it. I sold it after a fender bender that I had, and I wish I had kept it....almost immediately. Great upload, lots of memories here.

Try a 1959 Chevrolet Biscayne Police Interceptor 409 ci w/a 4 spd MANUAL transmision, positraction rear end, with FACTORY headers,& dual exhaust, factory larger, upgraded front disc, rear drum brake system, and a rare, working, motorola cb radio with working, dual rear deck radio antenna, (on ALL Chevrolet models from the Low-cost/fleet vehicle Biscayne model to the highest msrp Impala SS Convertible,- fully optioned out, the 2nd rear deck antenne was NOT functional, - you literally had to be a police/sheriff/fire dept. administrator/ with ordering authority to get this radio option factory installed!) I saw this absolutely PERFECT, Dark Metallic Blue, "Plain wrapper," Idaho State Police Highway Patrol Interceptor Vehicle , when a serious car collector, whose father, (or uncle, or other, relative , was a high ranking Idaho State Police official, if i rem3mber correctly, a Lt. Colonel who ran the second largest ISP Barracks, under the ISP Colonel, and who had had this very Interceptor Unit assigned to him, as his ,secondary unit, - his first being a fully marked, 1958 Chevrolet Bel Air, which was fully loaded minus the loaded versions carpet. The opinion of the car collector as to the Lt. Colonels reaon for having parked the '59 Interceptor, and keeping the marked, 58 Bel Air, was that the 58 was a 4 door with a 348 ci Chevy Big Block, (The base motor from which Chevy created the awesome 409!), while the Interceptor itself was a 2 door base model Biscayne, with absolutely zero options, save the police cb antenna, with rubber flooring, crank-up windows, and a sparse, light blue vinyl interior. It only had 11,000 origional miles on the odometer, because the car had been tucked away in the back of some secondary, and seldom used, State Police Parking Garage, sometime in mid 1960, and the car never saw the road again until the Lt. Col. passed away, and a mechanic who worked at the garage thought it would be an appropriate gesture to have the Col's antique Interceptor lead his funeral procession, right behind two vintage Motorcycle/Color Guard units. (The reason the mechanic knew the 59 was origionally driven by the Lt. Colonel? The mechanic was the son of the former garage facility managing officer/mechanic, who'd been in charge of installing ISP's hardware in/on all new ISP vehicles from the mid 1950s - 1980! My gosh! This should make everyone wonder just how many gems like the Biscayne Interceptor are out there all across America?! Realize just how much nepotism happens in all Police, Sheriffs, Fire Departments, and Emergency Medical Services! And all it took was some ranking officer deciding to keep his marked unit in service, while hiding his newer car that he didnt like so much, away, and simply forgetting about it. If you wanna see this video, look up a 1959 Chevy Biscayne Police Interceptor. I am sure that you'll be amazed!

My Favorite "Cop Car" bought at an Auction? A 1981 FORD Crown Victoria. Absolute Tank with Balls. Drove it for 3 years till a snowy day screwing around on the back roads. That Car ate tires like no tomorrow so suited myself as I was working at a junk yard at the time!

I love 60's muscle cars and 60's cars with a police package. But, having owned a number of them, none of these could out run a modern twin turbo Ford Police Interceptor SUV.

Don’t forget the 360* steering wheel horn ring. Certified speedo!larger brakes, heavy shocks, A/C cutout switch , big radiator etc. and in rare cases a persuit auxillery fuel pump system, heavy duty charging system.

Like what you do, keep it up. Excellent job on Mayhem, consider convincing Finnigan to foot the bill for giving Death Metal the "Super Bee-ter" treatment. Seems the perfect canidate

Back in the day, my little town's cops had their personal cars that they took home. Some of them hopped up theirs while one dropped a 427L88 in his. Every once in a while when us kids were out late we'd hear him coming and run out to watch him fly by without any lights on! lol

I had the opportunity to buy nearly the exact car, that was originally from Monterey, CA in turquoise. Tan interior, rubber floor mat. Someone had already stripped the dash of the speedometer etc. Lots of spare parts, 383 H-code, auxiliary coolers. Ended up being purchased by a well known parts vendor, who parted the car out unfortunately.

as a kid I dropped a 400+ HP 455 in my 76 Cutlass S , with the factory highway gears it was scary fast , would try to break the 295/50s loose doing 70MPH at about ? a little over 2000 RPM ... it gave me a whole new respect to the old big block police cars Thats a cool piece of history

It sure is intact and unmolested, I think it was a fair price. Chris I am 61 and back in the day we were chased down by police in Sattelites from 68 all the way to 74, they had Sattelites in our area, and the lights were in the grille, we called them under cover cops, brings back some memories.

Growing up my friends dad had one of these, it would smoke the tire, i say "tire" cause it was an open diff, right off the rim. One wheel peel buddy!

Second car I ever owned was a 69 Coronet 4 door, great car. Mine however was just a 318, but being in high school auto mechanics, i added a few upgrades to give it a bit more power. Had a lot of fun in that old beast.

I work for and have been around all kinds of celebrity people but the thrill of my life was actually meeting Chris Birdsong in my hometown of Barstow him and his buddy we're parked sitting in the general they had a trailer with a race car on it, realizing he's a busy guy I pulled up and said hi I enjoy your videos keep them coming, he gave me that Chris bird song smile. I'm telling you that is too cool for school.
