The word for this film is existential. There's no music score, nothing in the story is predictable although it's told in an ultrarealistic way, where it doesn't tell what you might want to happen, but does happen. Yeah, Tommy Lee Jones as the sheriff is perfect and I love how Amber says "I love her Southern accent" even though in real life the actress is from Scotland with a rich Scottish accent and she nails a Texas accent like she's nailing a fence and it embodies her character to perfection.

The Sheriff is played by Tommy Lee Jones. It's a great role for him. He is the old man that is not ready for what's coming. It's the symbolism of the title. He's not ready for the cruelty of the next generation's criminals. He thought the good guys would win in the end. Then he realized he was not able to withstand the onslaught. Another GREAT film with Tommy Lee Jones is The Fugitive. He is at his peak in that role. It also features Harrison Ford. Definitely give it a watch.

Woody Harrelson's character does say Shigur has some strange, twisted code of behavior, which he's kind of fulfilling when he tracks down Llewelyn's wife. Noticed how when Lewellens injury for the jacket, the college student wasn't concerned about helping him unless he got money first, and the two young boys were concerned for Anton out of goodness not expecting any reward? That to me was a symbolism of innocence that the two young boys had not been corrupted by the world and its greed. Antons escape is true to that sometimes bad/evil people get away with things in this world but eventually their demise will come one day too. That's the significance of the car crash at the end... Anton thinks he's something more, but in the end, he's human and can not escape his fate of death one day. Carla Jean was the only one who made Anton make a choice without the coins decision, so he broke his own morals and rules of people's fate. The coin doesn't have no say, it's just you.

A great, classic Woody Harrelson flick to watch is "Natural Born Killers" (1994), also stars Juliette Lewis, Robert Downey Jr. Tom Sizemore, Edie McClurg, Rodney Dangerfield, & Tommy Lee Jones. Written by Quentin Tarantino, and directed by Oliver Stone.
@RetroClassic66
@RetroClassic66 9 дней назад
Actually the original screenplay was by Tarantino, but it was heavily rewritten by Oliver Stone, along with Richard Rutowski and David Veloz, so Tarantino only got story credit for the film. Tarantino honestly has said that he hates what was done to his screenplay, which was considerably different from Stone’s final version, although admittedly Stone did an incredible job on it. I think Jay & Amber should see a few more Oliver Stone films before seeing it, though, such as SALVADOR (1986), PLATOON (1986), TALK RADIO (1988), THE DOORS (1991), and JFK (1991), before tackling such an intense and heady film as NATURAL BORN KILLERS (1994). It helps to be a bit more familiar with Stone’s intense style and especially Robert Richardson’s kaleidoscopic cinematography.

The Coen Brothers who directed also made "The Big Lebowski", "Fargo", "O Brother, Where Art Thou", and many others. Been a fan since the earliest "Blood Simple" and "Raising Arizona" from the 80's. The "Fargo" TV series are all excellent too.

Awesome movie! Surprised y'all didn't comment on the lack of a soundtrack! I, too, was shocked when I heard Kelly Macdonald speak and het sounding NOTHING like Carla Jean! Tommy Lee Jones was awesome as the sherrif, as well as Josh Brolin's 'Llewelyn Moss'!

Great take, Amber! I had to see it multiple times to get that perspective. It's all about the idea that real life does not always have storybook endings and sometimes bad things happen to good people. When we're young we think things are so simple and clear. When we get older we realize that life is complicated and hard, and the hero/villain edit we had in our minds growing up missed some things. Glad you guys saw this film! Mitch

The thing he uses is called a Captive Bolt... It's used to knock out cattle before they are slaughtered. It shoots a bolt out at high pressure and then it comes back in, so Anton is using a custom version!

There is a fascinating interpretation of the novel and film that speculates that Anton Chigurh doesn't actually exist, but that he is a figment created by Ed Tom Bell in order to rationalize the senseless brutality of the world he finds himself in. It's a lot more comforting to believe there is one psychopathic killer causing all this mayhem than it is to think that the world itself has just become a place of mindless violence and cruelty. I don't necessarily subscribe to the theory but it is one that I think works as a valid interpretation of events.

Anton Chigurh best movie bad guy - a close second is Mickey Knox (Woody Harrelson) in *"Natural Born Killers (1994)"* Also, late great *Ray Liotta* comes close in *"Something Wild 1986"* as a psychopathic boyfriend. Other movie directors feared working with Ray after watching that film he was convincing as a psychopath. *Natural Born Killers (1994), The Deer Hunter (1978) and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)* Three Movies That Still Haunt Me.

This movie has a lot of echoes of other Coen Brothers movies. The satchel is the same as they used in Fargo. The mobile home, Sheriff bending over to look at the mark on the wall, the hitchhiking scenes, Shigur shooting the bird, all are echoes of Raising Arizona. Also from Raising Arizona is the movie ending with two narrated dreams Lots of shots and angles the same as Blood Simple. A different movie tribute, the Woody Harrelson scene with Shigur on the staircase is a mirror image of a scene from Kingpin, also with Woody. Amber’s hair looks real nice. Peace, from NM ✌️

In case you’re interested the title comes from the first line of a poem by the Irishman WB Yeats, called ‘’Sailing to Byzantium.” “That is no country for old men.” Cormac McCarthy, the author of the novel this movie is based on, is Irish American and would know the work of Yeats. anyway. Next movie for y’all with Bardem - Dune Part 1. Please!

I can see why you guys thought that Llewelyn was the main character of the movie. However, the actual main character of this movie was the police chief, Ed Tom Bell (played by Tommy Lee Jones). You're not alone, not too many people got that. But don't you remember how the movie started off with Ed telling one of his cop stories that happened along his career as a police officer? And he also told other stories along the way of the movie. This whole scenario that played out in this movie (with Llewelyn Moss) was just for us (the viewing audience) to see yet another sad, horrible situation for Ed to add to his cache of cop stories. And being one of the worst right before he was gonna retire from the job. The movie began with one of his stories, and ended with Ellis telling him one, to remind him he's not the only one with bad stories, yet even after that, Ed still had a somber story to tell his wife. The often harsh life of a police officer. If you watch this movie again, carefully, you will see how the movie was really about Ed, even though much of the screenplay followed the actions of Llewelyn and Chigurh. Oh, P.S.: The reason why they didn't show Llewelyn getting killed on screen, but showed Ed driving up to the aftermath of him getting murdered by the Mexicans was another way of subtly letting you know that the film was about Ed. Just so you know.
