Sudan's conflict explained in 5 minutes: ‘Lawlessness on the streets of Khartoum’

Who are the paramilitary RSF and why are they in conflict with the Sudan army?
The unabated fighting has killed hundreds and tipped Africa's third-largest country - where around a quarter of people already relied on food aid - into a humanitarian disaster.
Instead of a ceasefire, the army has entered a new phase, fighting the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the ground, after having stuck largely to air strikes across the capital, with fiercer clashes in central Khartoum, since the power struggle erupted.

It is easy to get democracy however it will still falls if the checks and balances are not there or not enough Let's make example Philippines My country currently is still a democratic country however before we're authoritarian under Marcos. The only reason why marcos fell is because he failed to secured his army and a lot of the important keys in the government were moving away from him and siding with Cory. Now, to prevent such dictators to rise up, our current constitution has a lot of check and balances between the senate and the president -he cannot declared martial law without any permission to the senate -tons of anti surveillance and anti power tripping laws -no reruns for president and vp Soon, there will be anti dynasty law to kill off political family here Basically, they need to dismantle the constitution but there's one final safegaurd It needs referendum xD I think this is what the majority of failed democracy lacks of, they dont have the safeguards

One thing wasn't mentioned in the report is that the military leader Alburhan was also a general in the ousted regime and he and the RSF leader, Hemedti led the genocide operation against the people of Darfur in Western sudan. The other important factor is that the armed forces is still influenced by and under the grip of the islamic National Congress party which in fact ruled the country through the armed forces and put Sudan in isolation and economic turn down for 30 years, and this the actual regime the revolution was meant to remove but it couldn't in reality. Finally it was the leaders of this regime who triggered the war as vehicle to come back in power. The description of the war as purely a power struggle between two dictators is a big understatement and in fact it's largly politically driven.

Nobody wants to shade light on the following questions: 1. How did the two generals manage to remove the civilian-led transitional government chaired by Abdullah Hamdock? 2. Who were the outsiders with long hands? 3. What was the role of USA and Egypt in all of that? 4. Why did the US and Egypt gave recognition to the two generals involved in removing Hamdock?

@@badofi Very true.The conflict might delay the military base Russia was offered to build on the Red Sea, but eventually the US reaches a level where it cannot do anything to stop Russia from becoming more and more influential and completing the project. This is how things might turn out: China may join the Gulf nations to broker a peace deal in Sudan, making the US more and more irrelevant in the region.
@woozyz2769
@woozyz2769 Год назад
1. Obviously coup 2. Foreign parties are Egypt, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Russia and the US, typical proxy war. 3. USA doesn't want Russia to have that naval base near the Red Sea, Egypt just wants and absolute military rule in Sudan. 4. Egypt did but the US didn't. As said before, Egypt doesn't want a democratic islamic nation right next to it in fear that the civilians in Egypt might be inspired for a democratic revolution in Egypt itself.

Why can't they both get in to power and rule for 5yr (with different regions split to both parties without partiality) later put an election then people should select which was better for them so they can continue (Metrics should include development infra health & economy hunger eradication) I think US or China can mediate this plan with Sudan

The conflict in Sudan looks like the Civil War in South Sudan between Riak Mashar & his rival, the first victims were the civilians who fled in mass to neighbouring countries, hundreds of thousands of soldiers were killed on both sides, it was a struggle about power & wealth...the winning side in Sudan is the army, it is the commander in chief Alborhane.., backed by Egypt & many Western nations....Can Russia black the losing side ....Hmiti? I'm not sûre....

The USA and the EU want peace negotiations in Khartoum. But this cannot hide the fact that - as in the case of the EU - Washington also has other priorities in the first place. The two most important ones: preventing further intensification of contacts with Russia and the second, gaining another Arab partner for Israel. In particular, the agreement between Moscow and Khartoum to establish a Russian naval base in Port Sudan is unacceptable to the United States.

Not a very good explanation.. Dagalop and the RSF, (which are formed from combination of herding tribes,) are Sunni and they are funded by Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States. Burham is a Sufi, as is almost 70% of the Sudanese. Russia is not backing either side as they have their own issues. The West and the US are backing Burham, although support is limited. The fight is both tribal and religious, as is almost always the case in tribal societies.

CIA activities in Sudan Sudan has a conflict in the Darfur area of western Sudan. The Khartoum government had, in the past, given sanctuary to trans-national Islamic terrorists, but, according to the 9/11 Commission Report, ousted al-Qaeda and cooperated with the US against such groups while simultaneously involving itself in human rights abuses in Darfur.Wikipedia So whats your point
