Sudha Raghunathan- Raga sudha rasa- Adi- Andolika- Thyagaraja 

Andolika/Andholika is a janya of the 22nd Melakarta Kharaharapriya ragam. Its an audava-audava ragam (5 notes in both ascending n descending)..S R₂ M₁ P N₂ S / S N₂ D₂ M₁ R₂ S ; In fact, once Gandharam is removed from Kharaharapriya scale (22nd mela) n the rest are used in a symmetrical manner to derive this ragam. It is a creation of Thyagaraja and also goes by the name Mayuradhwani. Sometime back I have read an article on ragams wherein it was stated that Andolika was previously called Mayuradhvani and the write-up had shown the photo of he then Columbia Music-record for the rendition of the “Raga Sudha Rasa” by maestro SGK (Shencottah Gangaadhaara Aiyer Kittappa) .The important note connected with this info is that in the List of janya ragas Mayuradhvani is found featured 4 times with different scales, of course, one of it being the same as Andolika. Let us take it granted that there exists no difference between the two as generally accepted. I have found that every singer...erstwhile stalwarts of the gone century or the next generation's exponents ( I have loved the song only after listening GNB's rendition/cassette in eighties ) one and all has sung at a particular mode, supposed to be the Andolika;s benchmark for any music student or a music-lover who is keen on knowing the raga even at this time!!! I have enjoyed TV Shankaranarayanan;s RTP - Andolika Ragam .... Unadhu padam thunaye Orarumugane "; the same by MMI ( Madurai Mani Iyer)'s rendition in the Keeravani ragam too! & MS 's rendition of the same with a prefix of 'Velavane' in Bhairavi ragam as well!!! At this time I would like to tell on the Tamil keerthanam- Sevikka Vendum Ayya - rendered by Shri Sirkali Govindarajan in Andolika, who was well known for rendering songs with expression and with perfect Tamil diction with classicism intact! I have heard that the same song was sung in Kalyani by Semmangudi Swami (SSI) , but I have not listened.....not searched ! Here the Sudha Raghunathan....the celebrity vocalist like her Guru MLV presented a wonderful raagaalapana. ,,very composed rendition but gave the requisite feel of the ragam.the Single line Anupalli and the Charanam are so melodious. Swaroms sung slowly with he notes of the ragam did get hauled to an extempore presentation weaved with the permutation of swora notes . Excellent recital.

Andholika a very mild, soothing and relaxing ragam. It relieves you of the tension and stress caused by external stimulies and internal anomalies. It also helps and enable you to keep cool and relax completely. The visiting card for Andholika ragam is this keerthanai "RAAGA SUDHA RASA". Well renderedi by the eminent artist Sudha Raghunathan. 🙏🙏
