Yay. A Good Friday as I made quick work of this puzzle. Had to notice the 162 triple in box 6 which left 38 twins. This helped with the UR in box 4. Thx Harold!

Yay, Harold! I found two URs and I think they were the ones you were referring to. The first involved a 3 & 8 pair and an 8 placement, the second one gave me a 4. However, I had to start a second time (all without pencil marks) because I went badly wrong first time with a basic error.

The 38 UR is the one I used to get going again. The other one I didn't mention, but I saw that one too.

Here's my path with a UR. It will be interesting to see whether it's the same one you used (27 = row 2 column 7): 27, 84, 26, 17, 87, 99, 88, 67, 92, 62, 81, 82 (UR, boxes 4 and 6), 11, 12, 14, 35, 19, 18, 79, 69, 23, 93, 83, 96, 75, 91, 71, 86, 97, 78, 74, 45, 65, 46, 56, 43, 31, 53, 63, 51, 41, 57, 47, 54, 44, 59, 28, 29, 39, 24, 36, 22, 32, 64, 66, 48. It has to be said that the way forward without a UR was quite a slog: 18 instead of 82 (naked single, not easy to spot), 79, 69, 65, 35, 19, 74, 56 (hidden single, fairly easy to find), 43, 48 (colours on 2s from R4C1), 59, 44, 28, 32, 82, 11, 47, 57, 41, 22, 12, 23, 31, 14, 29, 39, 24, 36, 66, 53, 63, 51, 93, 78, 98, 71, 91, 75, 46, 45, 86, 96, 64, 54, 83.

I suppose 'Unique Rectangle' is an accepted term, though I find it curious as it is based on assuming the solution is a unique one rather than the rectangle itself. I hadn't a clue what it was about till I watched a video by Sudoku Swami about it, only to discover I was already using the technique from my own observations!

Yes, I've noticed you have a very logical mind, which helps you notice things like that. Sudoku Swami's lessons on URs (and on many other techniques) is very good. He should have more subscribers than he has.

Hi. In Puzzle 88, you could have found 7 in box 5 before applying unique rectangles. Regards.

Thanks for your comment. Maybe I'm missing it, but I can't see how you can place a 7 in box 5 when I discussed the URs in boxes 4 and 6. Box 5 has 17 twins, but I don't see how you can place the 7. Can you clarify?
