In the harsh desert of the American Southwest, famed climbers Alex Honnold and Cedar Wright summited 45 rock towers, biked 700 miles, and pushed their bodies to the limits, all in the name of an adventure they aptly dubbed "Sufferfest."

At 13:22, Cedar Wright says "But the reality is, is that this is kind of a luxury. We're lucky to be able to electively suffer like this." Wow, great quote. Love it!

Same here 100% disabled in the wheelie with chronic pain since 9 years. A real sufferfest. But before that accident i used to travel the world and did what i loved, so it is ok for me since i have really good painkillers that actually do not kill the pain but make me feel better😇😇😇all the best for you, keep on keeping on✊✊✊

What Alex does to help other less fortunate people makes him more of a hero to me then being the king of rock climbing... He seems like a real human that truely cares about helping others, and if rock climbing makes him this sort of person then "Rock On" ALex :)

I was watching him with confidence until that scene where he starts freaking out, then I felt my entire body start freaking out almost feeling like I was on that ledge with him. I don't even know how he stood there, because my body would buckle. And I can't even tell what he's resting his feet on when he's climbing, it looks like nothing.
@ryanworden2823
@ryanworden2823 8 лет назад
+AugustAdvice Its a climbing technique called smearing. The shoes you wear have really durable rubber that creates enough friction to hold yourself there with solid hand holds.
@TerjeMathisen
@TerjeMathisen 8 лет назад
+AugustAdvice - I climbed that Half Dome route back in 1981, the place where Alex started to run out of concentration is the zig-zags, which is the technically most interesting part of the route (5.11 something afair), then he freaked out just above them on Thank God Ledge: You can either cross that ledge hand-over-hand, hanging below it, or you can walk across like he was doing when he locked up. With a rope and a couple of pieces of protection dropped into the crack by my feet as I walked along it was just a lot of fun, but I really wouldn't have like to do it unroped, even if it was just 10-15 feet off the ground instead of 1500+. From the video you can see that he's standing up in the beginning of the cut after the place he froze up, this probably means that he had switched to hand-over-hand to get across the narrowest spot.

Standing on that ledge is the easiest and safest part of that half dome climb, but for normal people, standing up there on that ledge would be the scariest thing they could possibly experience. Lol

"less than 3 months after climbing cobra pillar...it fell over." i wonder why? Bringing electricity to people who have been living without it in their homes since time began, has a powerful effect. Freedom from some of the natural cycles seems double edged. I saw my Hopi friends who have lost so much land to the Navajo, change from evenings of candles and talking and silence to droning out on the continuous sound of the tv. Tv...sounds like a disease...one i've had much of my life. Epic film!

I swear, some Navajo’s embarrass us. Instead of quickly yelling at people why not approach them peacefully and just see why they are out there. I hunt a lot on the Navajo Nation and deal with rude grazing permit holders all the time. FYI most trust land on the Navajo Nation is not owned by grazing permit lease holders, however before you go rock climbing definitely contact the Navajo Nation Division of Natural Resources and find a Navajo person who can go along with you. There are some amazing sandstone and volcanic spires to rock climb!
