The forces of House Kurita have formed a trade blockade centered on the tidal locked moon of Hopper IV which lays in a vital shipping lane between industrial planets of the system. Hope you guys enjoy! This was a universe we’ve been waiting to visit for quite a while. Also, stuff worth pointing out is that we are using Macross Mechs for the operation (mostly because they are the best ArmA mech mod available for the setting) which I was then told had a long and complicated history of actually being part of BattleTech which I found fascinating and proceeded to fall down a rabbit hole with. Also, yes we are using TitanFall dropships, they are great lol. Oh yea and ignore the mis-accredited Star Wars reference at 9 minutes in, I’m dumb lmao.

If you going down the battle tech rabbit hole, look into the Atlas mech. They have a cockpit that would make Emile proud and a tendency to punch small mechs to death. I'm not joking about that last part.

The Fact you were using Macross Mechs for the Battletech mod is one of the most ironic things I've heard in a while. TLDR of why : Battletech has been in legal battles forever and its main opponent was Harmony-Gold. Battletech in its infancy purchased certain mech designs to pad their rosters. These Mechs were also used in Macross due to other deals. The 2 companies have had a feud of running legal battles ever since with the Macross Mechs become "the unseen" until relatively recently.

infantry without power armour vs mech are next to useless outside of city fighting also clan elementals but those guys are crazy like jumping on to mech and ripping the pilot out of the cockpit after punching though it crazy, and remember they still lost

*Me playing Infantry in my TTRPG group.* Infantry in the tabletop is scary. They shred each other, they deal good damage, and anti mech training makes them Funni when dealing with Mechs. Fun fact, a mech can only punch themselves to deal with a swarm attack.

I mean, there is reasonably relevant Infantry in Battletech, the problem is that they jump around with jetpacks wearing 2-ton suits of power armor. But yeah, the 31st century is a shitty time to be Infantryman Pvt. Joe Johnson.

Also because Warhammer 40K has a similar enough premise and GW demonetizes any content using their IP, most 40K creators have switched over to BattleTech for their sci-fi tastes StringStorm's song Tukayyid is set in BT, now that all of his songs about Warhammer are getting shafted and because Emperor TTS is on indefinite hiatus (I presume. I don't actually know any of this for a fact but it seems to be where things are heading)

Battletech lore 101: Space is ruled by neo-feudal empires in the wake of the collapse of the Star League and the ensuing Succession Wars, all dependent on the secretive Comstar in order for their planets to remain in contact with each other through the 'HPG' network. Technology has declined so much that the tools of modern warfare are frequently handed down for generations, and captured or salvaged rather than outright destroyed, as many of these tools cannot be built in the modern day. Each and every piece of these machines has a history you can read about, as they were each built by someone, at some point, and the fact that you have them wherever you are fighting implies a story about how they got there.

There was indeed beef with some of the devs, with one of them leaving, although this was a little while ago and I cant quite remember why

If you guys could ever get the Black Pants Legion in on your Battletech Ops. You will not only have such an amazing time but you will also learn pretty much anything you want about the Battletech setting. You'll be able to name specific mechs, know what their built for, their weaknesses and shortcomings, etc. And you'll also learn that being Infantry in battletech is a death sentance. XD

It's not really a Battletech single mod per say, they've used several mods to build a Battletech style mission. The VTOLs were from a Titanfall mod, the mechs from a Mecha mod, etc

@@Kyoptic I did notice that, cause those had the Macross designs that were older "Unseen" designs. (and landed Battletech into legal trouble more than once in the past). Those dropships looked familiar and until someone in the vid said Titanfall I couldn't remember cause it's been years since I played either game.

It is only like 40 or so designs (I think) compared to everything else in Battletech, not all. Still, I have no idea what all happened to where the situation became what it is today and I doubt anyone outside the respective organizations will.

Kinda suprised that there isn't a Battletech mod for ARMA honestly, people have ported the MWO models to just about every game under the sun at this point. Seriously, there's a Mechwarrior mod for *Fallout 4* of all games. The thing I'd really want to see is proper BT-style Dropships. Those dinky little VTOLs ain't got shit on a Leopard, much less a Union. Seeing a giant battle-ball of doom just drop down on an area and wreck face would be awesome.

The Warthog is just such a well-modeled sci-fi vehicle that it doesn't look out of place in 90% of other sci-fi settings. I'm not sure I could picture it in Star Wars or Star Trek, but those are the only two big exceptions that come to mind.

To add to what others have said (that they're literally robotech models), these are *still* in-universe designs. When the game started out in the 80s the designers grabbed models from some company thay was just re-branding Macross mechs because they didn't have the cash to manufacture all their own stuff yet. It's led to multiple lawsuits from Harmony Gold and they're called "unseen" now because of all the legal trouble, although that's less true than it used to be.

If you want to see some elementals, Mechwarrior: Living Legends was a Crysis mod where infantry all got elementals to zip around in, and it's getting a sequel eventually. It's a super cool game and I wish it got more attention.

Hey Raptor, if you ever wanna know more about the universe of Battletech I'd HIGHLY recommend another creator here on RU-vid called BlackPantsLegion. Specifically his series known as "Tex talks Battletech" I don't think I've come across a more passionate speaker when it comes to the lore of the setting, the man lives and breathes it and the production value of his work is seriously up there. Give him a look if your interested.

Hell yes Battletech is the best, glad to see you guys doing it. I know this would've probably brought the servers to a halt but in order to get the true BT experience, you should put EVERYONE in mechs and run an op that way. Probably better when more mech models are available - I can only imagine the shenanigans if you got your hands on the faster light mechs.

There is a "show" (if you want to call it that) called the Actuim Knights that explores a bit into the infantry, and Elemental, aspects of Mechwarrior combat. It also dives into a little bit of the politics and aspects of the different houses and periphery relms. All done in VR and quite entertaining.

Honestly just be happy none of those mechs near you went critcal. Considering the powersource for those mechs is often said to be nuclear reactors, a mech going critical is kind of like a small tactical nuke going of next to you.

Yeah, but that's not actually something that happens. The devs were smart, they knew reactors don't do that (although the radiation could absolutely kill you), but Michael Stackpole decided it was more fun to write in some mini nukes. Even then he wrote it as a very rare fluke. So now there's this awkward contradiction. But for something sim-ish like this I'd rather the more grounded version.

I absolutely love BT but it's got some teething problems if it wants to grow. Introducing someone to tabletop and explaining where get things is tough and CGL isn't very good at it. Plus they just don't have the money to put out new models often enough. What they do produce is getting much better, but usually you're stuck finding substitutes or hoping Iron Wind Metals still has one of the original models lying around.
