He has an amazing knack for off-the-cuff ramblings that make no sense. Not sure why he does it, but it's hilarious and original. Can't wait to see him and his peeps on tour this fall.
Absolutely! I went to one of his Age of Adz shows and he talked about physics and horses running into walls and none of it made sense in the least! Love Sufjan!
One of the very few performers who sound even better live! I still can't believe I missed the concert he had in ATL--I still think he'll never come back.
yes it is. Bryce curates the music now festival (this one). He (and the rest of the national) i believe are from Cincinnati. He and Sufjan are neighbors in NYC and friends. Also, if you have seen the Sufjan leblogoteque where he plays on top of a roof, it is on top of this building.
He was talking about the insignias painted on the top of the memorial hall stage. You can't tell from this video, but there is an old hand-painted ceiling above the stage. It has a bunch of "virtues" written on it like "equity" and "patriotism." One of them said "manliness" and he was joking about it, saying that it was a manly medley. =]
@MrBadgerking Yea, he totally is. Sufjan performs with The National as well sometimes. Look at their performance on David Letterman of "Afraid of Everyone".
what in the world was he on about in the beginning, i cracked up mainly due to the fact that i didn't get it. i don't know 'bout him, but i hate public speaking, and imagining people in their underwear does not help.
Pls someone write what he says in comment section. I ain't a native english speaker and I can't listen what he says properly. I need subtitle but there's no subtitle on video that was made 13 years ago
skipped beginning because i can't tell The very first song I played, actually world debut, it's a song from a theme eight years ago that I wrote--uh, ten years ago--I had a series of these silly songs I wrote for each the planets, and the first one that I played tonight is based on a variation of a confrontation between Jupiter and Pluto, large masses against smaller masses. As you know, Pluto has been demoted to, uh, no longer is a planet but is just a celestial object. This song is in honor of Pluto. This next song is sort of generated from this idea, of my impulse to always create many many many songs about one particular thing, because I'm sort of driven by concepts and conceits and things like that. And I had been writing a series of songs about cars. And one that recently has obssessed me is the Chevrolet Avalanche. It's one of the most impressive, uh, manifestations, of...of...man's childish imagination let loose, um, in this sort of capitalist economics--erm, fueled by, uh, uh...uh....... fantasies, Peter Pan fantasies and uh, um...driving fast down the expressways of America in this gigantic, um, sort of, transformer...toy.
