@@448DamonXX mayweather waits until thr best fighters are out of their prime before fighting them. He is a counterpuncher, relying on his opponents mistakes. Leonard didn't need to wait on his opponents. He was faster than them.
aaron pryor I think it was more a payout before the fight began that contributed to Roberto's decision. Ray and Roberto probably had an understanding for a third fight but Leonard's clowning and clowning got to Duran. But, Duran still received his $8 mil prior to his rematch with Ray. Interesting.
Sugar Ray Robinson, Muhamed Ali, Angelo Dundee, Sugar Ray Leonard, a boxing collaboration that has set the highest and finest of standards for generations to come.
Eugene McGirt Not too many hurt duran .but in that first fight Leopard fought durans style of fighting, toe to toe. In the rematch leonard fought more his style and totally embarrassed duran into quitting. ..
H You dont go into a title fight out of shape unless you plan on using that as an excuse if you lose. If leonard fought duran in the 1st fight the way he fought him the 2nd fight he would've beat him no matter what shape he was in.
I purchased both the medium ru-vid.comUgkxfh2XUOHWYHKQYOvSq2gZ6PyCmVkTFGWz and small speed bags from Meister. I'm very glad I got both as the workout is quite different from the two. The small is fantastic for getting your speed built up once familiar with your striking. The medium bag provides a considerable amount more resistance building more strength in your punches. I highly recommend both sizes. Some people have expressed concern over the latex bladder leaking down more frequently than the traditional rubber. I have not found this to be an issue at all.
@@zh295 Boxing isn't what it used to be. Boxers of the 60s - 80s were phenomenal. Those were the golden years but today, it's just not the same. And Sugar Ray in his prime would put to sleep any #1 ranked boxer in today's world.
Its sad we gotta get old Ray Leonard Roberto duran Mike tyson Ali Marvin hagler Would easily clean out the divisions of today if they were young and around
You don't have to be a rocket scientist to know boxing but you have to know style. Boxing is a form of martial arts fighting with the hands, good foot work and agility to outsmart your apponant which sugar ray have mastered. Beating other fighters style...
@@thecarlitosshow7687 He tried to beat duran the first time like how duran would fight because he insulted his family and srl wanted to beat him at his own style, which wasnt his style.
Leonard is a genetic freak. I don't recall seeing a fighter throw punches with such speed, accuracy, poise and ferocity. I don't understand why his career faded so quickly? Leonard v Hearns 1 'The Showdown' a top 5 all time classic of comeback victories.
memrneptah sealy Your perspective is quite interesting, considering Hearns was ahead on points, Ray's left eye was closed, retina detached, black, and blue. Tommy was unmarked. Leonard also didn't agree to a rematch with Hearns until 8 years later when he thought Tommy had been worn down enough to be less dangerous than when he fought him the first time. It's a "comeback" when you're losing the fight, getting beat up, and come back to win.
sugar great great fighter and so fast, but the man that scares me when I watch his training tapes is Tyson. I don't know how he didn't kill someone, unbelievable combination of speed and power, I could feel his punches from my couch. lol
Amazing fighter, probably the second best Welterweight ever, second only to the original Sugar Ray, Robinson. I often wonder what a fight between them would be like. What Robinson lacked in speed was made up by his power, a perfect combination. Leonard vs Robinson would be a battle between speed and stamina vs power and durability.
My favorite boxer are sugar ray robinson, muhammad ali, sugar ray leonard, prince naseem, vasyl lomachenko, amir khan, manny pacquiao, floyd mayweather, mike tyson, manual marquez, & miguel cotto
Great fighter Sadly he didn’t age well into boxing like some fighters do I think yes the retina as mentioned above affected him and he had severe drug and alcohol issues otherwise he was a perfect specimen of a boxer one of the top elite ever for sure
No doubt, he would have just overwhelmed Floyd Mayweather Jr. if they ever fought in his prime. He blitzed his dad and they have almost identical styles, although Jr's defense is obviously better.
Kevin Lomax Mayweather Sr. is a Dollar Store version of Mayweather Jr. I think Ray would beat Jr. too but Jr. is far superior to his father in every aspect of boxing.
Now before everyone gets in an uproar. I don't know for sure who would win but remember Floyd's dad gave Leonard problems in their fight. Mayweather Jr. is a carbon copy of his dad but levels better in every category. It would have been a great one!
Leonard fought in a much tougher era, loaded with all time greats where fights were 15rounds, and fight fans expected the boxers to fight. It wasn't about money back then... it was about genuine rivalry and who was the best. Leonard had it all. Mayweather jr, wouldn't have lived with a prime Leonard. Mayweather never fought anyone in the same caliber as Leonard did..... And I include Manny in that in that statement
@@noodles169 First off let me correct you. People may not say it but it's always about the money no matter what nonsense you're talking. Ok let's address your other points. Yes I agree that era was tougher. 15 rounds wouldn't have any effect on Floyd Jr. whatsoever. He's conditioning is phenomenal. But Floyd would've presented his fair share of problems for Leonard as well.
uh john kirby gave him problems ??j leonard just batterd him around the ring and knocked him down 3 times till ray ended it with a tko wtf you talking about and he was still wet behind the ears that being leonard!!
