Sugar Sugar Rune 🥹 Honestly, one of my favorites. Female friendship with nuance and character, distinct personalities, trials and tribulations, and god I just love Vanilla and Chocolat’s friendship so, so much.
I watched it when I was 9 years old and fall in love with this show. I remember "trying to see hearts" with the "heart glasses" at class and dreaming about its otherworldly magical world. It's a very special show, and one that is closed to my heart.
Sugar Sugar Rune is the spiritual successor of 1970s MG series Majokko Meguchan, wherein our hero Megu (who has a pink heart motif and red hair) is in competition with Non (who has a blue diamond motif) to become the next ruler of the witch world. They do the peace sign thing… bc it was the 70s, lol. Witch society is vastly different from human society and thus they have to both learn how to be more human/humane in order to deserve the crown. ABOUT THE HUMAN NAMES. Yes. Aisu can be a Japanese surname, both their surnames are written in kanji. But YES, Aisu also is supposed to sound like 'ice' - which is how JP people say ice cream. Aisu Vanilla = vanilla ice cream. And Kato Chocolat = gâteau chocolat (chocolate cake).
I really don't think an anime can ever go wrong if it's magical girls with a witchy aestethic. I didn't grow up watching this either, but I also felt so nostalgic watching it for some reason. I definitely think you'll enjoy it, the story has some nice twists!
Sugar sugar rune is sooo nostalgic for me. Me and my friend recrated and acted out the entire show for our middle school summer talent show. Definitely one of my most cringe moments, but it was so much fun at the time ✨✨
I love this serie it was one of my favorite serie when I was young and it had pretty mature vibes and themes unexpectedly, i really hope that you can do a reaction serie for it , cause there are aren’t many on RU-vid 😢
If you really watch it in your own time, please consider reading the manga too! It has a different ending, which is much stronger than the anime's (imo at least, but I think most people agree). Plus I think the art is great and has a more gothic vibe than the anime.
Yes! And it has a lot more plot elementa that were never shown in the anime (especially concerning some backstory concerning the characters) and they really emphasize the political themes and the themes of friendship and femininity (specifically friendship between girls) that the anime downplayed
To this day, hearing the France Gall inspired theme puts a smile on my face. I like Chocola & Vanilla (as it was dubbed in french), not a masterpiece but still very fun to watch. I'd love a full review of the anime! (also, about the subpar quality, the best you can ever find is 720p, sadly. No bluray ever released) Unrelated, but I got the idea of making a custom music box, with the Toi Omoide BGM. You know, the music box OST from Queen Tourbillon's chest in motto. How is Toei sleeping on this???
I loved this show growing up. It’s up there with my favorite anime’s of all time 💕💕💕You brought up something interesting at around 11:38. If you continue watching, there are some moments where Chocolat gets really greedy with the heart taking and not caring about the people she takes the hearts from. In one episode Robin tells Chocolat that her mother took many hearts and cared about the feeling of everyone she took hearts from. That becomes a big learning moment for Chocolat as the series continues 😊
I first read these manga books obsessively at my library in middle school. I loved their friendship. The only anime(mostly manga) that makes me want to buy all of their merch. I love the style til this day.
I loved Sugar Sugar Rune when I was a kid (despite the ending having something very triggering for me in it) and still have all the books since they were a gift from my sister 💖 I don't see a lot of people talk about it so I'm happy to see you cover it~ Thank you for making
I remember preferring chocolat with the boy who was suspicious of her secret instead with the blone guy, because that boy was one of the few people that was on her team through the series and was her own age. Although the blonde guy did end have an interesting backstory
Maybe have a nice check in like you did for precure being like “this is my thoughts so far”. I feel like that’s a more mangable thing rather then reactions. That way you can do things on your own time
I always find it a bit weird that the blonde guy, who looks like he's 20 likes Vanilla who is a teenager. Am i the only one who think it's a little disgusting? I like this anime. The colors, the music, the charming characters, the magic. It's great 🥰
watching this and magi ranger was the highlight of my day when i was in elementary school. i listened to the opening recently and it immediately took me back💜💜💜 i used to have it on dvd but at some point it vanished. does anyone know where SSR is availed to watch online(US)? i used to watch it on billibilli but it got taken down😭
