My skate team was invited to a skating tournament by our friends the Knight Riders. What made the tournament unusual was that the music was strictly Rap!!! We got to the tournament and entered to compete. We then just hung out together and watched the other contestants and it was fun watching them compete. Later a list of songs was given to us to do our skate routine too. We saw this song and had no PROBLEM!!! choosing this song!!! We were the last to compete. one of the other teams did a premiere routine and led the competition. The Grand Prize was $20,000.00 cash, Custom Rink Jackets, New Skate Equipment, and a Beautiful Trophy!!! The team that was leading was taunting us and trying to make us quit so they would win!! The Captain of the Knight Riders Said To Me " Time to show these people who we ARE"!!! Then the Knight Riders took to the skate floor and this song started. Little did we know people started Cheering then the Captain of the Knight Riders said " Please welcome our teammates the SUPERBIRDS"!!!! My team and I started Flipping and flying all over the rink then I SCREAMED " CANNON"!!! then I launched my girls high in the AIR!!!! Then my girlfriend Danielle SCREAMED "TOMCAT"!!!! then I fired my girls over the top of the Knight Riders!!! My Girls then danced with the Knight Riders. Everyone was CHEERING us on and REALLY getting into this song. When we got done we won the tournament HANDS DOWN!!! NO CONTEST!!! We won the tournament for two reasons, One, The Routine we used, and Two, this song!! the Owner and the DJ said " This song Is how RAP got Started!!! These Teams Are Definitely OLD SCHOOL!!! The Owner asked us to come back and do a Pro-Skating Show For them!!!!
1:17 there was a poster in the bathroom of a house I rented on vacation that was just these lyrics then I found this song randomly while looking through old school hip hop

And we can also acknowledge Wanda Robinson, whom rapped over the music of Black Ivory on Today Records at the beginning of the 1970s. And as you said, we can go back to the 20s & to be technical, way back to the griots long before then.
rapture WAS the first rap video to air on Mtv, but not the first rap song ever. Probably, Blondie was aired first due to A bit of that "Shading" that used to happen so much! With all due respect, where did you get this information from? To be exact, the first "Rap" song as we know it was actually "King Tim III" by The Fatback Band Featuring King Tim Washington & it came out shortly before "Rapper's Delight" near the end of Summer 1979. Rapture was released the 2nd week of Jan. 1981. Remember that she mentioned Fab Five Freddy & Flash. Just for your edification: check rateyourmusic & look up chapter 1_ hip hop rap singles of 1979 the beginning for starters.
And by the way, no matter what anyone may try to tell you, Millie Jackson WAS & will ALWAYS be considered the "First Woman Of Rap", though rapping over music & not necessarily rhyming. People like Pigmeat Markham, Andre Williams (see "Cadillac Jack"), The Last Poets, Gil Scott-Heron & even Joe Tex will ALWAYS be acknowledged as being part of the roots of Rap. How does Debbie Harry get this exalted position? However, I will acknowledge & give her props for helping expose Rap to the mainstream.
the first rap song was by Blondie aka Debby harry the song was called rapture and was released months before this they were touring with months before they recorded it. so Blondie technically speaking she is the mother of rap as she was recognized by the music industry as the first rapper although she only used once in one song
