Suggestion Diabolique relied on motion control to become the most dynamic film of a piano performance. The movie shows virtuoso pianist André Laplante interpreting the three minute eponymous piece composed by Sergei Prokofiev in 1908.
The notable asset of this short film lies in its use of motion control to shoot complex cinematography. Motion control is mainly used for its stability and its capacity to repeat, with perfect accuracy, relatively simple moves to shoot footage which is then manipulated during the creation of the special effects it was intended for. In Suggestion Diabolique, the superior precision of motion control is rather engaged in shooting a single shot composed of numerous camera and lens movements. Oscar-winning animator Chris Landreth lent his talents to the design of Suggestion Diabolique's camera movement, which was first created in a 3D environment and then reproduced on set by the motion controlled camera.
