This video features a counseling role-play session that demonstrates a suicide assessment of a client (played by an actress) who presents with stressors related to an upcoming divorce.
Dr. Grande was very effective in covering all avenues and possible scenarios in her safety plan. He effectively answered her questions and concerns in relation to each part of the plan and still showed regard for her and her well-being. This would be very helpful to refer back to when working in the field.
Liz Connor I agree. This was a great example for how to work with clients that are suicidal and make sure they understand that you are looking out for their well being.
Dr. Grande made the client feel as if she were taking part in her own safety plan. He also reminded the client of her resiliency in past overwhelming situations and the many positive reasons for staying alive. Great learning tool.
The therapist did a great job maintaining an empathetic stance while assessing the client's risk of suicide. This was also a great video showing how to properly set up a safety plan with the client. Also great job instilling hope in the client at the end.
Making a safety plan and seeing how it is addressed with the client is a good reference to use if this situation ever arises. It is very helpful to see the process of going through the steps and how the counselor responds to the clients questions, and also repeating the steps along the way so it gets more cemented in the clients mind. Very good role play to see.
These videos are helpful in assisting me through my education journey. There are situations that may present themselves in the future, and I am grateful to have these references as a guide and example of how I could conduct the circumstances.
It was great to see the formation of a safety plan with the client. If the client feels she has taken part in the safety plan, she is more likely follow it.
I liked watching Dr. Grande develop the safety plan with her. I was curious as to how this was done. He also was very empathetic and reflected back feelings to this client.
Monica, I also liked the part about developing a safety plan. I have seen safety plans before but never seen it talked out with a client which was helpful.
