Mental illness is really a taboo subject in the church. This was so eye opening at and the same time heartbreaking. As a Pastor's Kid I remember being a little girl and saying I never want to he married to a Pastor and I made that statement from a very broken and ignorant state while watching my dad and how he was treated at times by the church. As I got older I realise that there is so much to ministry than what we see on the surface, we need healthy support systems and to know that mental illness is real! This is not a figment of our imagination but it's our reality. Thank you for sharing Dr Anita!! I really love listening to you and this talk really hit home for me. Felt it to my core.

I desire to say something but I can't seem to find the words. This was insightful, inspirational and filled with love, grace and mercy. Choose life, choose joy, choose to get up every morning. I could hear God saying those words to me. Thank Dr. Anita and Kayla. This moment should be apart of the curriculum for all counseling students.

It’s hard to watch your love one drifting away in isolation and depression, refuse any help but rather believe this is something they are choosing. Thank you both for this conversation. May God continue to give her strength. 🙏🏽 for Pastors

How she responded to his admitting to suicidal thoughts, is exactly how I would have responded. I never knew that was wrong. Thank you for sharing and being so open.

I pray she lives a life expecting to see her husband again, in Heaven. This was such an important conversation for EVERYONE to here. So many perspectives to learn from. It hurts my heart to think of how harmful and condemning “some” church leaders can be when it comes to suicide. No, we don’t want anyone to take their lives. But hearing all the challenges my brother and sister faced regarding his mental illness only garners deep compassion and empathy for anyone struggling. Again, a much needed conversation. Dr. Anita, when they offer you a talk show. Stay close to God, your format and truth. Your voice has been a beacon of hope during these challenging times. I’m thankful that God is bring you forth.🙏🏾

This is something that spoke to a place inside of my heart and soul. It is painful and oftentimes you feel so alone. As a believerr who lives with depression, I can only imagine what that might feel like being a pastor. So grateful you guys had this conversation.....it is so needed.

An off-balanced thyroid can actually lead to/cause mental issues ... Especially when doctors can't pinpoint it through lab work. A lot of times it's misdiagnosed. Some of the related symptoms are anxiety, insomnia, nervousness, irritability, inability to focus etc... A healthy thyroid is very essential as it regulates every organ in the body including "the brain and nervous system." Thanks for tackling this topic ... it was very insightful👍🏾

After 30 years finally acknowledging and getting help for childhood abuse. Dealing with dreams and thoughts of rape. The last time I considered suicide was in June. Jesus saved me from that. However I'm still attacked periodically. Thank you for sharing.

Praying for your strength in the Lord!! Jesus Loves you and you were worth it you were worth God giving His life only begotten son Jesus on the cross to die for you. Remember this it wasn't your fault what happened to you... I experienced sexual abuse as a child and The Lord told me recently it wasn't my fault... GOD Love us

Hello dear Anita Philips. I would like to ask you with all my heart to read my entire comment, even if it is very long. These words come from the bottom of my heart. I am a listener from Germany and I can speak English very well, but so that I can really say what I want to say with all my heart and can also speak freely, I am currently translating the German words into English. First of all, I am very, very grateful to you for each of your words and all of the podcast episodes! There is so much truth and wisdom and love in your words and yet you are completely authentic! I love that! I am a very spiritual person. I believe that there is something that is higher than us humans. Some may call it God, some call it Mother Nature or the Universe. Yes, you heard right, I am not a Christian. I practice white magic and I am bisexual. I only dare to say that because I have the feeling that you will forgive me because you have so much love in you! I've looked at all kinds of religions. Aren't you all basically saying the same thing? Don't all religions basically say that one should be in the here and now and that one should trust this higher power, whatever that power is, and follow it with all of your heart and with all of your mind? Don't all these religions say that everything has a purpose and that God has a plan for us? Do not all these religions say that one should love oneself in the same way and should also practice charity, that one should always act with good will and from the heart and trust and belief that one is in control of one's own life and things which one cannot control can one ask from God or this higher power? Don't all religions say that everyone is valuable? Doesn't the Bible also say that you get what you deserve (karma) and that you also get what you wanted as long as it is God's sake and you wait patiently? It always manifests differently, but isn't that the message of every religion? Then I tell you that this is actually what I believe. I also believe in Jesus. There is so much truth and wisdom in the Bible! However, I also have to cry, because isn't it also so important to be true to yourself and to serve yourself and not (only (God? Isn't everything that you do with love and your heart and good intentions also God's work ? Why is magic and witchcraft (including good witchcraft) a sin? And why is it a sin when a person loves another person of the same sex? Love is love and you can love whoever you want! And can't it Be God's will when you are with a person with the same sex and you can't have a child but you can adopt one from a bad family and unhappy, sometimes traumatic circumstances! Isn't that also salvation and care and love? Without these things I would actually also be a Christian but I don't want to be baptized by a church that denies these things that I said at the end! Faith and spirituality have often saved my life and me from suicide held! He has often given me the hope I needed again! And believe me, I have nothing to do with the devil! I act with good intentions and I am willing to learn if I am wrong! What is your view and the Lord's view?
