Suicide Survivor with Chronic Illness Reacts Hi Ren by Ren 

This song genuinely probably saved me... I lost my daughter in 2021 and have just stopped living.. i have been doing nothing, unable to work, unable to talk to anyone, unable to look after myself or my fiance, been distant from my other daughter who is mostly grown up now and just really on a way trip to oblivion... I've known it, and i knew i had to do something about it, but this song, and others from Ren genuinely and most sincerely gave me a push in the right direction and helped me stop the descent.... it just got me at the right time i think.. I'm going to do better, If Ren can do everything he has done while living through the hell he's been through, i owe it to myself and my family to try and be better.

I’m 56, a combat Veteran, diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 20years ago, suffer with a variety of alphabets.. and the first time I heard this song I cried like a lost child. Call me sadistic but I put it on repeat for the rest of the day. Since then, I’ve watched at least 70 reactions to this video. Why? I guess it’s therapeutic. Thank you for your reaction and thoughts. There is nothing like depression for making you feel alone and nothing like a Hi Ren reaction video and its comments section for making you realise you're not.

It's a year since this dropped, but thank you for this reaction and thank you for spreading more love for Ren. His music found me at a time when I really needed it and it inspired me to start writing, and hopefully recording, music again. But thank you for those words of inspiration, "Keep casting those shadows behind you. They get bigger, but keep doing it anyway, 'cause it's worth it." Those are powerful words. Also, you call it you inner demon, I call it my shitty roommate, but even if it saddens me to hear others have that voice, it is also powerful to know I'm not the only one. I hate react videos but have been binging reactions for this song. The fact that every single one sits there silent for at least 5 seconds after it ends speaks volumes about just how powerful this song is. The amount of courage it takes to completely lay yourself open like this is inspiring and contagious.

I've lived with an autoimmune illness called Systemic Scleroderma since I was 17yo, and I've struggled with depression and anxiety as well because of it and other life circumstances. That's why I connect with this song soo much, it's very relatable to just about everybody who has struggled in life. This isn't just a song, this song is one of the best pieces of art I've ever seen and it cuts right down to the soul!!

I appreciate your honesty and can sympathize with your health struggles. “Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar since December; it went viral and has garnered more than 6 million views since its debut, but he has been creating great music for more than ten years. Ren’s music videos are generally recorded live, often in a single take, although not necessarily the first take, and from various camera angles. His release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." Many of Ren’s songs resonate with people because he addresses struggles that many others face every day. Ren plays multiple instruments (acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, piano, drums), has impressive vocals, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. He is considered by many a modern bard; he calls his music “bardcore.” Ren’s earliest recordings on RU-vid are from his time in a band called “Trick The Fox,” consisting of Ren and his buddies Charlie and Tommy. Unfortunately, the band performed only briefly due to Ren’s onset of health issues. They are very talented. Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me,” “Sexual Healing,” “One Dance/Drunk in Love”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice. His live music videos are especially impressive. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation, although it is less of a personal song than it is an indictment of greed and the resulting injustices in this world. Ren’s Hip Hop/Rap style songs are all worth checking out if you enjoy this genre; they are pretty amazing. After I first saw Ren's video, I was so moved and found myself watching others reacting to this beautiful work of art. I can stop now, I understand why Hi Ren is so powerful and why it affected me so. You did that for me. Your pure and honest reaction helped me to understand why some people do not have the strength to fight any longer and now maybe I can forgive him. I live with 6 autoimmune diseases and I faught two primary cancers squamous cell carcinoma that spread to my bones (terminal) and endometrial cancer from 2017 to 2020 and went into remission with less than 1% chance of remission. My endometrial cancer is back and I have blockages in my kidneys and large intestines so now I have 3 bags I have to wear all the time to use the bathroom. I've had a partial hip replacement and at least 25 other surgeries dealing with my cancers. The cancers are even harder than my autoimmune diseases but my PCOS is the reason for my endometrial cancer and I have a full hysterectomy prior to 2020. This song hit me right in the chest. I felt every second of this song and I can't stop playing it since he released it and it does help me. Many of us needed a song like this to help with our issues. He should win award after award for this song.

I've been through it all too, sister, and I've cried my eyes out watching him. I've never heard an artist I could relate to like him. I've spent years sick. I think the mental illness has been worse than the physical. I'm glad you're still here, you seem really sweet.

His performance is raw, real and deep. I have struggled with bipolar and anxiety disorder for most of my life. He is spot on about the pendulum. The brighter the light shines the darker the shadow it casts hits home for me. I know that no matter how good I might feel today, I have to prepare myself because darker days are coming. I found his masterpiece extremely therapeutic.

Loved your reaction. Seen so many reactors from Rap to Rock to more. Ren certainly brought so many together with this masterpiece. Certainly more reactions from Ren's rabbit hole needed. His band The Big Push great too. All play, write and sing. We are human and anyone that doesn't shed a tear isn't. Being 55 have to admit I have hearing it over 50 times now.

This song is like the greatest therapy session you could ever have because it immediately and vividly reveals two things we believe about ourselves that are simply not true; 1. that we're alone in our suffering, and 2. that we're abnormal because of this inner dialog, we believe no one else has it because so many repress it and don't talk about. Well, Ren just shined a light so bright on those lies that they can never be hidden again....and what is it that dispels darkness......light! Ren even gives the antidote to the inner dialogue...relax, don't fight it, don't accept the words as true either, but just allow them to come and go as clouds pass through the sky.

This song has really had an impact on me and it's amazing to see soo many people connecting with it. I really hope you do "Jenny/Screech/Violet's Tale", I heard that song for the first time a few weeks ago and I was even more blown away. This is a masterpiece of modern art. I have struggled with mental health my entire life. Although it has mostly manifested itself in depression, I have the genetic pre-disposition for schizophrenia, bi-polar, and multiple personality disorder. These things loom over me constantly, a constant reminder that even if my depression gets better, there's something much worse that could await me in the future. As an ex-vangelical...someone who grew up in the church, and as someone who has struggled with mental health, I deeply relate to the dichotomy of self represented in this video. "The pendulum between good and evil" (paraphrase). I have broken away from the religion of my parents and now as an adult, I am realizing that mental health and religion are intertwined. I will always be fighting a battle within my mind and it's art like this that makes me not feel alone.

I found myself with tears streaming down my face thinking this is pure art. The second time, it hit me harder with the lyrics. For 10 years my brain has been so inflamed, i’m a soldier and it ripped me apart bent me broke me into a psychosis. I didn’t think I’d ever come back from. Well I’m on my way to recovery and I can go ahead and tell you I’m carved out of wood and unbreakable. Nothing will ever be hard again, the worst thing that can happen to a person already happened. I accepted the fact that I was gonna die from whatever was going on. They thought I had Parkinson’s… Not many people get to sit on their deathbed and contemplate there your life what they would do if I had a second chance. Then get that second chance‼️With great suffering comes great and empathy, understanding of the human condition, and I’m going to help a lot of people! Get in my way and I’ll be the rock you break against….

As someone who also suffers from illness... and my case is terminal. There are chances things could go a different route, but at this point in time I'm not even sure I want to go through that. Thank you- I came across REN’s video earlier this year but have lost track of how many times I’ve watched it, Thank you for your bravery in sharing this especially with regards to your personal struggles. I can relate to REN Ihave an autoimmune condition from a very young age which meant my education suffered, friendships were affected as I was constantly bed ridden. I was only diagnosed at the age of 20 with Crohn’s disease and have endured several operations- the disease almost killed me twice. I am in my mid 50s now and still struggle with it and mental health issues but if it wasn’t for my wife I’m not sure how I would have survived- my wife also has an autoimmune disease-she was diagnosed with MS about 10 years ago we joke that we have autoimmunity in common

I have watched "Hi Ren" on so many reactors channels, and it is beautiful that his music is reaching so many different people. Dear Tachy Tanya I to recently discovered Ren as this song in particular as a suicide survivor with chronic Illness I of course was so so sympatico with the lyrics and even the visual and tonal impact of this masterpiece. I have since listened to his other musical be it rap or song. Ren truly is the most innovative musical virtuoso at this time. In my humble opinion of course! Lol. I hope you treat yourself to the rest of his amazing works. I to would love to give this man a huge hug. Suffering myself from double depression, depersonalization, anxiety disorder and a chronical pain disorder (e.g. 20+ days with headaches / month) for decades by now I feel so connected to Ren and this masterful piece of art he created and gave us. As someone who's had my own battles I really appreciate seeing your reaction to this. It is just astonishing and so hard to know how to react at first. I just sat in silence for a while. I feel like Ren has done something genius here, not only is the song and performance absolute genius, it has also opened a huge conversation about mental health, physical health , auto immune illnesses, the interaction of all of them etc. Feels like a landmark moment and a truly genre changing moment.

I have been binge-watching reaction videos on Hi Ren for the last two weeks and I can't seem to stop. Watching people's reactions to this Message which I can not explain other than the Truth. I find myself in tears every time I see when someone 'gets' the Message. It is the entire Gospel of Christ in one song. First, we just sing along, then the inner battle, then Satan reveals himself and then Christ comes and Stands up in authority over us and claims us to be redeemed. Our Saviour and Eternal Hope and the only One who truly stood in the Eternal Flame having His brain cremated while it burned away Our sins. And finally, it is ok. Because we have been made to be trailed and tested, we are human. Revelation 3:20 "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me." Jer 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope."

So many of our illnesses are invisible, because our worst days take us away from the gaze of others. Ren shines a light into that darkness and reminds us we aren't alone. Ren lost two friends to their own darkness, and two of his songs are a very powerful love letter to those people missing from his life. The first is called How to be Me, and the second is Freckled Angels. They may be too 'much' to react to, but I think you'd get a lot out of listening to them. The video for his song Crutch is hard to watch as someone with chronic illnesses, as he wrote and filmed it after having a nervous breakdown. Sick Boi covers the problems he had in getting his physical symptoms taken seriously, as for years he was misdiagnosed as having only psychiatric disorders. There's a video he re-released as promo for Hi Ren which was originally a vlog he posted about his struggle with M.E. It's a powerful part of the journey that I think would interest you too.

The song structure itself is incredible. It starts off as a battle between his positive (Angel) and negative (Demon) aspects, the negative makes an overpowering last ditch effort to reign supreme, but ultimately fails as the final act, being the "God" aspect, emerges Triumphant, though still acknowledging and accepting that it will always be a battle because we are all "a coin with 2 different sides". It's a powerful piece of performance art that gives "broken" people HOPE. It's a beautifully raw musical masterpiece. Ren is special. Welcome to the Ren rabbit-hole, it's a trip worth taking.

I have chronic pain and BPD. Medically retired after 17yr of military service. This song rips me up every time. Then I see typical reactors just smiling and laughing, and I sit here like wait, why dont I do that 😆
