N: I am Nemo D: I am Dodo. And we are were this song was written, at the Succsess Club at the Pfingstweid Street (in Zürich). NOMINATION BEST HIT 2018 N: I am very happy about it. It speaks for this year. It's a big joy that so many people listened to it, downloaded and shared it. D: Best song, is the most important category and if you are nominated and it's great to be nominated. Because you know people have been listening to it for the whole year. The bought it, streamed it and that's a big honor. N: But at the end it is just a stone/brick. Because we make music to make music. Because it's what we like to do. But yes. It's great. DU N: It's funny. A person I know told me to make a song about me always losing everything. This was the original idea and then it got a layer more. About a person that you do not lose and this is what makes the song what it is. But there are many coincidences, like a chain of thoughts and at the end you do not write the song. The song writes you. It writes itself. COOPERATION N: You say something. Laughing D: We decided to make a second EP together and they sat down and wrote like crazy. Texts and sketches. The great thing about Nemo is that "it bubbles". You can tell them to bring 5 songs and they bring you 6. Or 10. That's Nemo. And then it became clear that the song Du they wrote was really touching, had a special message. They had recorded it with a reggae pattern... N: I thought Dodo would like that. Reggae, finally reggae... (Dodo sings mostly reggae besides being a producer). Dodo: Yes, fina one of this artists bring a reggae song. But then I immediately destroyed it and said, that's not possible like that. Then we sat down and had the courage to first cancel the beat completely. Then we liked it but we were not sure about it. There is a song with this crazy good lyrics and then almost without beat. Will people laugh about it? It didn't turn out like that and we are happy about it. Nemos emotions and message were better "transported" this way. TEXT/LYRICS OR TUNE/MELODY N: It always goes hand in hand. I made a text for the first version, then we changed the beat and had to adapt the lyrics a bit. Dodo: Yes, like they said. It goes hand in hand. Nemo brings ideas. Markus Jäger and I reflect on how we can represent them in the best way and then we adapt it together. Maybe a word isn't yet right or the flow. But the decision to do the song this way was collective. We all said, let's dare it. SONGWRITING N: It was clear that we will make this (second) EP together. It worked very well the first time. On all levels, also personally. So it was clear that I write songs and bring them to Dodo. And he will produce them. Before that I also sat down in a cafe with Lo (from Lo&Leduc) and to go through the texts. Lo is super for this. He sees the smallest details and can tell you if there is a mistake. Maybe you contradicted yourself and he sees it. Or something that is grammatically incorrect. This elevated the song to another level. Dodo: The best songs alway come from inside. You feel something inside and the urgency to say it. And the first step is to write it. To think about hiw people will react is always the second step. First it's just you with your song and that's the most beautiful moment. MUSIC AS A LIVING N: I think it's too soon to tell. My life, it's all about music now. I'm also studying music. It feels like I'm doing nothing else at the moment. What of course, it's the case. But who knows, maybe in 5 years it will be something else and that can also be great. I am still open for everything. Dodo: When I was twenty I traveled through Africa and almost died of malaria. In that moment, I realized that I have to do what was most important to me and it always has been music. So, I told myself: Dodo, make music. But I needed 15 years to be able to make a living. But I always enjoyed doing it. This is the most important experience I have. Just do what you love. With everything you have. Every day, every second. IN FUTURE N: At the moment I'm writing and producing. And I'm not thinking about much else for the future now. D: I'm starting a tour with my band in March and Nemo will be there for some shows. And other artists I produce. This will be the highlight of 2018 for me. SUISA (Association for creators and publishers) D: I'm very thankful that Suisa exists and for everything they do for us. We ate legally protected, we can call and asked where and when our songs were played. They collect the money for us. As an artist you are often absorbed by your art. And it's great that SUISA deals with the business and money part. N: I lost my inscription for SUISA three times. I had to call every time to ask if they could send the documents to me one more time. The third time I made it and I'm a member now. I already got legal advice and it feels like a family even if we don't know each other. And they are able to give you much information.
