How ironic and silly the U.S. vs China situation is! China has long ago abandoned its aim in competing and overtaking the West (ie the U.S.) but has been focussing primarily in improving the living standards of its people and working on equalizing the haves and have nots gap - a difficult and almost insurmountable task but not impossible as long as it is being worked on all the time, chipping away at it. Consequently, China is like an Olympian athlete who is concentrating in beating their own best record and each time, after beaten that, go on to beat its new best record again. It treats itself as its own competition - and funny thing is, they have managed to achieve world records when they do this. However, the U.S. keeps looking at China as a competitor and has been so focussed in staring at what China has been able to achieve one step at a time, step by step drawing closer and closer to the U.S. that the U.S. has neglected in improving itself and is now panicking as it has found that its legs are no longer able to move after standing still for so long, staring at China. Like an old athlete who has forgotten how to compete, this is where the U.S. is at now and can only think of ways and means of hobbling and even crippling China in order to remain ahead of "the race".

Actually, US decline is not as this fast. But the sanction force China to be self sufficient and thus US decline has speeded up. All the problems faced by US are self inflicted.

One thing that really stuck in my mind about Jake Sullivan was that in every press briefing in the US, he was very good at lying and then dodging journalists' questions.
