Sumin tested for her blue belt / 5th kyu in Jan 2023. The test was close to 2 hours and covered a wide range of skills including ukime, kihon, pad drills, kata, tegumi, kumite, nage waza, newaza, live training and more.
This is one of the most inspirational Karate videos I have ever seen - really showcases what a Test should/could be - and humbles me, on what is possible with children practicing karate.
Pretty impressed for 5th kyu! I've seen black belts with worse kicks. Nice to see more boxing style techniques in your system as well as the standing grappling. Karate (as a generalization) needs more of this.
Thats excellent Sensei, I train both Kyokushin and Judo and plan on training MMA in the future. When I teach I will be running similar curriculum to yours, its important to train the holes in our game, a bit of judo basics, gi and no gi grappling, gloves and no gloves, self defence and sport, both traditional and more applicable kihon, kata... Training all these aspects of fighting is what makes karate such an interesting martial art and a lifetime study, lets get over boring 3K karate.
