Strip away the pretence and it's all about perpetuating the system with tighter controls and not changing anything at all at a fundamental level. The ruling class will still be ruling. Hence why these little shindigs only ever include.. the ruling class.. and not the general public who might have different ideas on what constitutes actual change.
Sounds to me like its not about helping humanity but rather to control humanity through management of a crisis. I would suggest that people do something to help rather than come up with abstract means of controlling us
