Backpack game is on point

Invest in a hat sponge for your Akubra. Removes any goop you might get on it with some Dawn soap. Get some hat sweat pads to protect the band. Use hairspray to stiffen the brim if needed. I would like to find a good pack that integrates a Haversack so you can seperate eaisly from the base camp bag.

Since you called the Haversack only overnighter a 'fail' how about an overnighter with the 'Hidden Woodsman Pack' only? I commend your haversack attempt - not many people would have tried. Desert 'bushcraft' is truly different from our 'brothers in the trees'. The pack should allow you some more gear but still a 'minimal' loadout. That is a good lookin' hat!

Shame on me At first glance I had thought the knife was a #4215 Dexter Russell, pretty much the exact knife Col Townsend Whelan carried while roaming swaths of remote Canada and Panama alone and with minimal gear. I have several, one I bought as a blade and put scales on. They're available everywhere for less than $20 and still as useful as they were a century ago . Properly flat ground too

Like the Akubra. As an Australian, I'm quite partial to them and like you said, they're high quality. Had mine for decades and continues to look good. Worth the money.

EDC Miami consists of one 15 rd. 9mm handgun, 2 extra full clips, and body armor. I lived in Overtown Miami for 2 years and have first hand experience of the violence that permeates every inch of that sespool.

I'm almost opposite of you in the fact that I've always been a pack guy. I tried a makeshift haversack using a military butt pack but, I've gone back to my ALICE pack. Just seems to work better for me.

I'm like you with the vision issue. I used to buy expensive sunglasses, but broke or lost many. I usually go with cheap gas station glasses.

I also have the Pathfinder bivy. I have only used it twice beach camping. I feel it like the Coalcracker Bushcraft T-60 tarp it is good gear for when a day hike becomes an unexpected overnighter for whatever reason. Neither would be my ideal pieces of kit for a long camping trip. I will be very interested in your view when you return from your trip.

Awesome video! Hydration is really important, it can kill you painfully. I am really digging the Hidden Woodsman camo pack. I need more field gear almost as much as I need a bullet hole in my head, but I will have to go look it up. Can't wait for the bivy camping video.

I saw the recent "rain video" and if I may, in the military we use a similar Pancho/tarp thing and typically ill just use the hood as an anchor point, usually tying it off with some paracord to a small green tree so that with a little tension ill get a concave-up type structure with a vertex at the hood, it worked well for me thus far. I enjoyed the video and I know you could nail the challenge if you try again, have a good one Broski.

AKubra's are awesome, I switched years ago and never went back. I currently wear a Cattleman but also switch it up to an Adventurer and a Snowy RIver.

I recently learned of Akubra Hats from Scotty's Gone Walkabouts channel, I have my eyes set on the Coolaba with the croc tail hat band. They do make beautiful hats.

Pen and paper for me also. For us older guys, if we don't write by hand every so often, our handwriting really deteriorates.

There is some evidence that shows physically writing something down with pen and paper engages more creative parts of the brain than typing does.

Enjoyed the video!! The new hat is awesome, living in canada and dealing with the weather. I have come to appreciate my leather Australian outback hat. Oil it up usually once a year and its great for wet weather as well as cooler sunny days. Funny thing about pen and paper. I have had a brain injury and according to the brain specialist that i have dealt with. Pen and paper is actually a better way to remember things. There is a better "connection to the brain". (My words not his) So especially for anyone with adhd, brain injury or learning disabilities pen and paper is definitely a much better choice. I have to laugh we apparently have the same taste in water bottles. Ive been using the military canteen for a decade or two now. Along with the rest of the kit that goes with it. Ironically you are trying a backpack and i just moved to a haversack / military messenger bag. I picked up from our local surplus store. It even has a perfect outside pocket for my vhf uhf HT. It has gps / aprs built in and can even track you and direct you back to your starting point. Along with a lot of other options, like a shortwave radio and for basic communications it does not need any infrastructure. I also picked up a couple small plastic amo cans, one of which i am using for a first aid / emergency kit. Its a perfect size for all my different bags, super light and has a water tight seal. I'd put the clip on the chapstick on the body, not the lid. You'll end up with the chapstick in the bottom of your pocket without the lid on it.

Which cheap knife still does job.

Writing things down on paper is better then Writing on a cell phone, because the government can at anytime look at what's on your phone. If you had you escaped plan on your phone they'd have it.
