The Women's 200m Individual Medley (IM) is shaping up to be one of the most thrilling events on the Paris Olympic Swimming program, and it could see a legendary world record fall. With stars like Kate Douglass, Kaylee McKeown, Summer McIntosh, Alex Walsh, Yui Ohashi, and the potential return of Katinka Hosszu, this race is overflowing with talent!

the depth of this event is very strong, but as the final is on day 8 of a 9 day expected busy program for Mcintosh, Mckeown and douglass i doubt the world record will be broken, as an aussie i hope kaylee can win but there is no clear favourite until the trials have been swum

Is there a chance the world record could get hit as early as a a trials rather than at the Olympics? 200m IM is day one of Aussie trials as an example of where schedule might help swimmers.

McIntosh has the most upside of the 3 with a significantly slower Breaststroke than the other 2. Her breaststroke is improving substantially so pick her for gold. It's not a given that she will race the 200IM but likely she'll swim it.

Not that we disagree she has huge Breaststroke upside but Kaylee has a massive amount to give on the Backstroke leg as well. Just looking at how strong her 200m Back is shows the endurance available to her Think also one of her new sponsors (McIntosh) could have accidentally leaked her schedule, pre swim swam. Looks like she’s picking the 200m IM and 400m IM over the 200m Free and 800m Free. We will find out for sure at Canadian trials in a few weeks time 🤞

In the 400 IM that Summer just swam, her first leg of the breast was 37.92, 0.71 seconds faster than her 38.63 leg in the breast of her 2:06.89. Even if she just does that time (I'm assuming she could do it faster in the 200 though), she's in WR territory. Looking forward to seeing what she does tomorrow.

The 3 woman mentioned if they all swim it will be on the podium. I hope Summer picks this over 800. Kaylee and Kate I think will swim it. Alex Walsh or Yu Yiting if Summer is not there. I think the record could go for sure

Pretty sure Kaylee's breast and free splits are inaccurate. If you watch the swim live you can see that the touch doesn't register for the breast to free turn until she pushes off with her feet.

in her recent breaking of Stephanie Rice's Australian (super suit) record, Kaylee was cruising on her backstroke leg, remember, she's the world champ in the 50 m backstroke and her backstroke split was well below what she can do. So I think she can improve on that swim, wins in Paris and breaks the world record.

Yeah for the 200 back WR holder to not be the fastest on the backstroke leg might point to her playing with pacing in that last swim, and seeing how much more she can push it without hurting her back end.

Everyone one of these three girls has a chance at getting the World Record whenever they get in the water next. If it goes at either trials then it’s obviously a fantastic achievement and great for the sport. The time is very tough though…

Kaylee's breast and free spilts are incorrect. On the breast to free turn, the touch pad only registered when she touched with her feet and not with her hands. So she was about 0.5 faster on breast and 0.5 slower on free
