It's easy to see why this earned its 100% rating. Great fun, it's like an Easter egg hunt. I particularly liked the way the knight's move was quite subtle. Too often, it's so restrictive that it makes a puzzle too easy, but this was perfectly judged. I especially liked the way all three rule sets often had to be used in unison.

The deduction he makes around 9:00 - 10:00 by sort of bifurcating a square being orange can also be made more logically/systematically. The 3 purple squares in the bottom-right box, all see R8C6, which therefore cannot be purple. The purple cells in row 8 all see R9C6, which therefore cannot be purple.

After failing to solve yesterday's 'Simon' puzzle, I was determined to finish this one. And I did ... after over an hour and a half! I started out well enough, but got stuck after about 40 minutes, stared for another 20, then started bifurcating the **** out of this, before seeing a key thing I missed and backtracking to my last 'proven' position. After another 20 minutes or so, I finally crossed the finish line. Total time: 1:32:15. Tough puzzle! (For me, anyway.)

I posted an antiknight/thermo sudoku to the CtC discord server a couple of weeks ago using a similar setup to the one in the top right corner, so this probably helped me get a nice jump on the solve. I absolutely love the logic involved and how the rules interplay with each other around the crooked thermos. This was a fantastic puzzle, a lot of fun to solve!

At 8:45 - the “right hand side” of the purple square in Box 8 cannot be in because: 1. The top-right cell is seen by all the purple in Box 9. 2. The bottom-right cell is seen by both the purple cells in Row 8. This eliminates the purple in Column 5 Box 5. I know it’s not technically bifurcation as Simon defines it, but I prefer elimination by “logic” than “testing”, even if I can do the testing in my mind. And I don’t like puzzles that rely on testing to solve.
@SpiritFryer

Ah, nice, I missed that in my solve and ended up eliminating by testing! Needed to remember that there's a purple in row 8 to eliminate r9c6

I'm sure being close to the monitor doesn't help. If you hold your fist out at arm's length, it should completely cover the whole grid. If the grid is any bigger, your scanning will really suffer. I raised this issue with Rangsk, because I noticed his eyes (and sometimes his whole head) were moving a lot when scanning. He said he needed the display to be large in order to get a high resolution video. I'm guessing you have a similar issue. I have a suggestion. I don't know what your hardware setup is, but assuming a worst case and you're using a laptop, and its built-in camera, you might consider this. Get a 10.1" 1080p monitor. Set it up to replicate your desktop, and prop it up in front of your laptop's display. It's small enough not to obscure the camera, and you get a more compact grid. If you or anyone else is interested, search Amazon for "10.1" 1080p monitor" for a selection. Caution: make sure you check the "native resolution" is at least 1920x1080. Some of the monitors claim to be 1080p but aren't, they just accept 1080p signals. Elecrow's is true 1080p. They also do a higher resolution, but it's not available in the UK yet.

i just noticed something special about knight's move puzzles and the puzzle from 2 days ago (Disjoint Killer by Quarterthru) where it sayed: "Cells that appear in the same relative position in their 3x3 box must not contain the same digit. eg the digit in r1c3 cannot appear in r7c6 as this would cause a repear in the North-East corner of the 3x3 boxes." that rule just happend to a lot of knight's moves puzzles. (not all i have to say)
@Michaelzehr
@Michaelzehr 4 дня назад
I thought I was clever spotting the cells that saw all of the curved thermos in the northeast, and that the three tips saw each other and eventually became a 789 triple, and it was utterly useless for making progress. Aside from Simon's speed in scanning and solving, I'm astounded how rarely he goes down a dead end. I, on the other hand, often spend 20-30 minutes asking the wrong question, or coloring the wrong way, or noting something interesting that doesn't quite yield results.

I don't know why everyone is raving about this one, as it was one of the longest and most irritating slogs I've had for a while. I _almost_ got the initial break-in, but just failed to spot the elimination of the middle cell. I needed the video to get past that point. But even then it just continually failed to fall into place. It took me close to three hours of hunt-and-peck worrying around the grid to finally get to the end. I like thermos and I like chess moves, but this one just didn't do it for me. Disappointing.
