Summer Photography - Cottongrass in North Yorkshire

Admittedly, I don't typically shoot on clear sunny days as I much prefer the mood and atmosphere of the colder seasons. But there is no point sat inside when the sun is shining, so I tried to make the most of the glorious weather by shooting something different (for me) - the huge amount of cottongrass on the North Yorkshire Moors.

1) What's your Day time job? 2) Isle of Skye, Southern Ireland or any other popular locations you're planning to visit in the futre? 3) What draws you to Whoodland Photography over other subject's? 4) Tea or Coffee in the mornings? 5) We've not seen Seascapes, do you plan on expanding your interest in landscapes with the ocean? 6) Inspirational Photographers? Thank you.

Simon Baxter you seem to go to infinite care getting the detail of your shot perfect, more than some other top photographers. Is this something in your personality or have you trained yourself to do it? (Which ever way it is it pays dividends in your final image.)

Question: I love your patience in working an area and identifying locations where you know shots will look great months from now, in a different season. Do you have a system to keep track of those locations and when you'd like to return to get that shot?

I really enjoyed the beauty you captured in this video. When every possible I photograph small plants and flowers. It always amazes me how much beauty is under our feet and in our busy lives, we walk right by most of it. I enjoyed the fact that you went out of your way to find this landscape to share it with us. Thank you.

What a beautiful sunset, and so much time to work with it. I always forget how late the sunsets are on the higher (and lower) latitudes. I remember it being light at 10pm in London a few years ago. It was so strange being from the subtropics.

Hi Simon, really enjoyed this video. I've learned from your channel a lot of things and in my own wee trips out to photograph, I noticed I've taken a more relaxed approach to capturing images since I started to view your videos. Also, I don't know why, but I always thought pictures were meant to be a certain way, angle or place, but now it's like I'm happy just being out and taking a picture of what gets my attention and also if it rains the light changes afterwards giving glistening rocks and grass, you're an inspiration Simon and a very good teacher. Thanks for all you do.

Really enjoy these videos Simon and learn a little more along about composition with each episode. I used to shoot and process 35mm B/W stuff 30 odd years ago, but like most folk switched to digital once I could afford it, but just a little fixed focus Sony point and shoot job to carry around on my hikes in the hills. I recently bought myself a better camera and am getting back into the swing of things again. Thanks for the uploads. ATB Dave.

I like your relaxed and measured style. When I saw the title of the video I was surprised because it didn’t sound like a very promising subject but the images you got were excellent and full of interest. I’m glad that Meg is well looked after: I imagine she has her own caravan with a big star on the door to use for grooming and preparation before each shoot. My question for you is: You have suddenly appeared on RU-vid as a polished blogger and accomplished photographer but how did you learn those skills?

Many thanks, Howard. Haha, I can just imagine her being pampered before a shoot :-D Many thanks for the question, I'll make a note :)

Great video Meg but who's that guy that's constantly in shot or do you edit him out in post...... Excellent Simon, don't think I've ever seen that cotton grass before, looks fantastic against the back light and copper coloured grass, well done pal..
