Another phenomenal video Sandra. I've just about got it down! Probably the most famous version of this tune was in 1966 when the great Brazilian pianist/organist Walter Wanderley released it. It became a world wide smash hit for him. If you haven't heard his version of it please do! My parents had his Rain Forest album which included this tune and many others. This was in late 60's and I remember them playing it when I was seven or so. I will get my visa card reloaded real soon and help out. Thanks so much for this video. Your the very best Jazz guitar teacher on You Tube by far!

Excellent tutorial Sandra - your a superb teacher.......very thorough with string delineation I'm a fingerstyle acoustic player with syncopation and do play a little JAZZ / bossa tunes, but just don't capture that melodic chord flow...........very helpful with your JAZZ/ bossa experience

Love your arrangement on this one, bought it a couple of days ago to see the chart for myself! 🤣 Not an easy arrangement for me at all, I mean the first part is fairly easy but phrase 4 & 5, still making it slow for me but I'll get it! 🤣🎼🎸👍
Maybe try to find easier voicings with the same top note yourself. Another option If it's too hard, is to play just the top note of each chord for a few bars.

Greetings from Australia! I can play this thanks to your brilliant arrangement, thank you, but even though I can hear it works perfectly I'm struggling to analyse the progression. Fmaj7-Bm7b5-E7 then Bbmaj7 (key change?) Eb9-Eb7-A7. ATM I'm playing as much as I can to memorise songs but keep heaaring how important analysis is. Would love your thoughts and a lesson on this or how best to remember so many chords LOL. 😍
It's not a "key change" (modulation). If you play this song in F major (like this video), Fmaj7 is the I chord, and Bbmaj7 is the IV chord and it is within the diatonic chords of F major scale. I would call it "tonicization" (temporarily making a certain chord other than the tonic chord sound like a new tonic chord). If the whole chorus of this song is in Bb major while the whole verse is in F major, that's a key change. I would play the whole song like this: (verse) Fmaj7 | F6 | Bm7 | E7(b9) | Bbmaj7 | Bb6 | Bm6 | Eb7(b9) | (chorus1) Am7 | D7(b9) | Gm7 | Em7(b5) A7(b13) | Dm7 | G7(13) G7(b13) | Gm7 | Db7(b9) C7(b9) | (chorus2) Am7 | D7(b9) | Gm7 | C7(b9) | F6 | Bb9 | F6 | Gm7 C7(b9) | As to the weird "Fmaj7 - Bm7 - E7 -Bbmaj7" progression (you can play Bm7(b5), but I think Bm7 is the right chord if you listen to Marcos Valle's performance. There's a video on RU-vid where Marcos played this song with Andy Williams and you can clearly see he used Bm7), I think the best way to analyse it is to look at the notes that make up those chords. 1. If you simplify the progression, you can see it's just moving from the I chord (Fmaj7) to the IV chord (Bbmaj7) in F major, the question is how to connect I and IV, and believe me, there are so many different ways to do it. 2. If you look at notes in E7(b9): E-G#-D-F, it's actually Bdim7 without E (B-D-F-Ab; Ab=G#). So E7(b9) acts as the same function of Bdim7, which is a "passing chord" to connect the previous chord to Bbmaj7 (Bb-D-F-A). Both E7(b9) and Bbmaj7 share the D and F note, G# and E work as leading notes to A and to F. 3. Bossa Nova or jazz musicians pretty much just turn everything into a ii-V progression (or its all sorts of variations). So Bm7 is just the ii chord to pair up with the V chord (E7), if you treat the E7 as V, temporarily. It looks weird because the Bm7-E7 doesn't resolve to Amaj7 as it "should" be in a normal ii-V-I progression, but it doesn't "sound" weird because you can still feel the tension that E7 creates and then resolve to Bbmaj7, and a ii-V itself will always be a smooth progression.
I tried that already, but just couldn't come up with anything useful. I can look at it again, but some songs jjst aren't suitable for chord melody. Or maybe I just can't get inspirated 🤔

Ich hab noch nie eine Epiphone Jazz Gitarre gespielt. Immerzu mit Gibson. Ich habe auch eine Eastman Archtop. Am besten du siehst die mein Video "Gear Recommendations" an, wo Ch auch mein Equipment zeige. Ich erkläre darin auch, wie du deinen Amp so einstellst, dass du einen guten Sound bekommst.
I can get the lead sheet and make my own arrangement, and so I did a year a go, I play it a bit different. how to improvise over the changes is the hardest part that no one is willing to show 😂😂😂
