I'm 77. Enjoy you and Ms Susie's adventures. Don't know what is involved, but would appreciate cc with your adventure. Hearing limitations creates problems for me to completely enjoy a lot of your adventures. Not physically able to do it, but can live it thru y'all. Ga. Boy Be Blessed 🙏

Funny how, at the beginning, you said, "I'm not gonna bore you much with the hiking part" (because I've watched most of your videos, and have never been bored. You do enough stopping, talking, etc...to keep things lively...all the time. Love the rain...good fun. Thanks for another great outing Luke.

Hi thanks for taking us camping with you. I love the rain.As a young man ,I went to school half a day, got out at 1pm .In the warm months after I got home I would walk about three miles to a small creak to go fishing.Sometimes it was going to rain. To me this was great.I would bring a piece of plastic, put a string from tree to tree and drape the plastic over it. I won't sit on my rock under the plastic and fish , hearing the rain on the plastic.It did not matter if I caught anything I just loved it. Thanks for taking me back to those days 60 years ago. Nice spot you have to camp .I have an old 1995 Dodge van (work van). No insulation, when we have a thunderstorm,I sit in it to enjoy the sound of the rain on the roof. Later in life you will much enjoy the benefits of the pee bottle.

Regarding urinating in a bottle inside your tent, you can also tale a piece of 1.5 inch PVC pipe, about the length of your pack for ease of transportation, and use that with the end sticking out the door at a downward slope to prevent flowback. Handy in those downpours, and would require only a minimal opening in the door.

Regarding peeing in a water bottle....did this once and tucked that bottle into the foot of my bag to keep those toes warm. Well worth trying. Great videos, loving them all and more importantly setting me in the mood to get out and do some camping again. Nothing like being outdoors. Love this channel and loving your attitude.

Its always interesting how people from different parts of the country talk. "pouring the rain" for instance. In Michigan we say "pouring rain" but we don't add "the" in there. Also Luke and Susan call small winter hats toboggans which I have never heard of, up here that means a sled for playing in the snow. We would call those hats a skull cap. Great job again Luke!

Luke, love your vids, love the energy and no matter what, you always seem to make the best of any situation. I wanted to comment on the urinating in a bottle. When I was deployed to Afghanistan I always kept an empty water bottle beside my cot. The latrines were about 150 yards away and sometimes the weather was so cold so I would pee in an empty water bottle and throw it out the next morning in the camp dumpster. Sure as hell beat running to the bathroom at night or early in the morning in the cold.

Great job on the video; I appreciate the fact that you didn't try to edit out the less exciting parts, and that all of it seemed so much like the way I tend to camp. I have used the water bottle trick on winter treks; if you don't mind the gross aspect of it, you can use a freshly topped off bottle of this type as a hot water bottle, thus conserving heat when it is really cold. Just place in the sleeping bag for extra warmth. Sorry if this grosses out anyone; but it gets really cold up here.

Luke, what u can do in a situation like this is take some wood, lay it over the top of the fire pit (on the very top of the rock ring), and then get some dirt and put it over the wood. This will protect the fire (somewhat), and u might get lucky, even in a strong rain, and enough coals will remain to restart the fire again after the rain passes. This is also an old technique you'll want to use even when it's not raining, and what it does is, basically, the same thing. It slows the fire down, because of limited air flow. You'll want to do this when u sleep for a long time and can't really tend the fire. Oh, make sure u leave about a half-inch gap on each side for slight amounts of air flow. Enough to keep the fire barely going. Good luck, young man.

My wife and I absolutely love your videos. We especially love your positive attitude and think it's contagious. I have a couple of questions. We are from Canada here and mosquitoes are horrible in the summer. Do you have many mosquitos there in N.C.? Secondly. I've seen on two occasions that you keep your sleeping quarters well away from your fire. What is the reason for this? Keep making these great videos. Cheers from your fans in Canada!
@TheOutdoorGearReview
@TheOutdoorGearReview 10 лет назад
Hey guys, it is nice to meet you both. As for mosquitos we do have them here but they aren't bad. A little smoke usually clears them out. If you're looking for a good product try Sawyer Products Premium Permethrin Clothing Insect Repellent Trigger Spray. Works very, very well. Don't spray it on your skin though. It's only for your clothes and gear. As for my shelters, I always keep them away from my fire mainly because I want to protect them from embers. Burning a hole in your tent seriously stinks when you live in a rainy environment like I do. Be well and take care. - Luke
