I live in Sicily where summer is starting. Should you be heading this way, think linen linen linen. Cotton or silk just won't do in the high humidity. Jeans are unbearable. Wear loose shorts or long pants. Skirts (and sunhats!) can be tricky in the wind. Forget heels - pavements can be rough. Please don't go round with the silly little backpacks that scream tourist. Leather handbags are also impractical in the heat. Wait until you get here, and grab a woven straw bag at reasonable prices from a market. I can't believe how much designers are charging for putting on a patch with their name on!
@@cindywatson3083 generally, May and even June can be variable. This year, the heat is starting early - like, TOMORROW! And we have scirocco, bringing sand from the Sahara. Sicily is bigger than you would think; different zones can have different weather. I can only suggest light layers, including a light raincoat. Forget wool and cashmere. I have a friend who used to pack a cashmere sweater - it never came out of her suitcase. A light scarf or pashmina could be useful: I imagine it can be breezy on a cruise ship
I agree with you completely. I live in the hot California desert where it’s over 100° every day. We are now in the upper 90s and it’s only going to get hotter. I wear linen dresses from Amazon that are very reasonable. I wear a light linen shirt over the dresses if they’re spaghetti straps. I don’t want anything tight on shorts or pants. I often we are tank tops that are cotton and linen pants ,dresses are my favorite when it’s over 100°.😊
Have to tell you about my day today. I was wearing a linen button-down shirt, half - tuck, and my co-worker , who is more than 25 years younger than me ( I am 56 ), said that I look so fashionable, she said that she is looking forward to see what I am going to wear every day and it's obvious that I love fashion! ❤️ Thanks for your hard work. It's not going unnoticed 😊
The little jacket you’re wearing is so flattering - the cut and color suit you! The Anthropology dress is striking as well. Can’t not mention your hair - A+!❤
Thanks Kay. You look particularly lovely today! Great hair. Also love that jacket you are wearing. If you don't mind me saying, a well-defined shoulder like that really suits you. Many women benefit from shoulder pads if they start to lose shoulder definition as the years go by. Makes everything hang better. You are positively glowing today!
Hello Kay! I just subscribed and find your cheerful personality is so refreshing. Your fashion ideas are great, you are absolutely right on point. Thanks so much for sharing. Blessings😊
I love wearing blazers. But, Talbots linen blazers are lined with polyester! I much prefer Quince linen blazers, they’re lined with 100% cotton and are beautiful. I just don’t see the point of wearing linen if it’s lined with plastic.
Any suggestions for an option to the blazer? I am a plus size short gal with broad shoulders and an apple belly. I have a tendency to look masculine and blazers really make it worse. I love them on other people but they just look so masculine on me.
I prefer softer fabrics or gathered / ruched or 3/4 sleeve ; light / pastel colors or w/ pastel color / print top under ( but not a " masculine " buttondown " shirt ) . Simple things to soften a classic look .
I’ve recently purchased or made some basics in linen. So comfortable to wear on a hot sticky day! I am one of those shoppers who buys things because I like them only to discover I have nothing to go with them! That’s a work in progress for sure. Thank you for another wonderful and timely video Kay!
Agree ! However , I like a very simple graphic tee under a jacket / blazer for a hint of " interest " or color , especially w/ jeans . One of my favorites is a " Black Dog " logo tee showing a silhouette only , no writing . ( Yes , I'm a black Lab & rescue dog person ! 🐾🐾💙 )
Old Navy is my favorite. Good quality, the fit is perfect for me, and of course, the price is right, especially when they run their frequent half price sales!
Great video! MM Personal Styling is another of my favorite channel, and she definitely emphasizes white as well. I gave it a try and it’s CHANGED my fashion life! So many more compliments now!!! You look lovely, and YES your hair is A-Maz-Ing! ❤ from Iowa
I live in linen dresses in the summer, they’re the only thing I can stay cool enough in on a really hot day. They are a lot of work to iron, but it’s worth it. I iron them carefully, then forget about the creasing while wearing them. I just got a beautiful navy shirtdress from Ralph Lauren to add to my collection, so now I have all my neutrals plus two colors, a pink and a light green.
Great video. As a retired 75 year old, I have trouble finding the super casual cotton pants for walk the dog and everyday wear. I have the wonderful ankle length pants in linen and cotton blends, lots of jeans etc. They are too nice to wear in the hot humid weather in Houston. I no longer feel comfortable in shorts. I have plenty of casual nice outfits for going out to lunch, doctor visits, etc. BUT nothing much for washable super casual otdoor days. Also.. my wide length black linen pants seem so " off " for summer. Wore them with a cute verical black/ white top for l7nch wi5h my sister but did not seem summery enough?
I really enjoyed the topic and its presentation. I also like the way your hair looked today. Are you trying a new style or maybe it is just my poor observation skills?
I love neutrals because you can style these in so many ways. Your dress choices are so classic. I have the same blazer and linen Bermuda shorts from Talbots that I purchased last year in both white and navy. They are so versatile. By the way, your hair style is absolutely beautiful today. Thanks for all your style inspiration.
Grateful Dead what's your bag shows your age...lol. I'm even older like Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and still Elvis. To me the Bee Gees is modern music!
I was planning on going to a casual dinner with the hubby tonight, I was wearing cute tensile sweat outfit but once I saw what you were wearing in this video, I decided to change into a white tee, jeans and a cute jacket and felt so much more pulled together! Thanks!
Hi, I like your ideas very much, but in looking at your own photos, I think that you would look much taller/slimmer if your pants were full length? I am not a tall person and I have found that pedal pushers and capris take more inches off
Kay, I love the gold blazer you are wearing and see in your comments that it is not available (sadly). Can you tell me who made it? Perhaps I can find one used if you can provide the brand name. Thanks! Live your look and your vids! Jennifer
Love the reminder that wrinkles are cool. lol. I really struggle with some of the graphic tees. A random saying or address of a store seems silly. When someone asks me what my shirt means, it’s like duh? Just my opinion
I tend to agree. I’m not a big fan of graphic tees, especially branded ones (“Chanel”) as they draw attention to the garment and not the overall look. And they’re much less versatile, especially if they include bright colours.
I can't seem to find a dresser that admits to not wearing sleeveless when upper arm sagging, wrinkles are something nobody wants to look at. I would only wear sleeveless if I had some item with sleeves over it. And that silly front half-tuck style??? Sure if you have a waist that's less then 25". But then, no. Just no. Too trendy. One day people will be laughing at that 'look'.
You should list all your measurements, so we know what to aspire to. The dresses look amazing on you. Thank you. Oh, one more thing, as far as your blazer goes, it is gorgeous. I see very similar blazers in different lengths at White House Black Market. JFYI.
I am n looking for a well made, long to my palms, tailored jacket that is neutral (not beige or white) that is benign enough to wear often. My go to was Ellen Tracy, then Linda Allard for Ellen Tracy. I don’t love shopping and most influencers are short. I’m 5’9, not a tooth pic.
I love your hair especially in this video. Are you naturally straight or wavy? If straight, I'd love to know how you style with the wavy. I guess I've been a contrarian as I've always preferred a small, curated, fine jewelry collection. I have 4 necklaces (2 white gold and 2 yellow gold) and a strand of pearls that I wear on repeat. I have 6 pairs of earrings that my husband has gifted me over the years that I love and wear also. I love to wear the pieces that "spark joy" on repeat.
I just recently bought my first linen pieces from Quince and I’m looking forward to wearing them this summer. I also bought 2 maxi skirts in white and in black as well as 2 maxi dresses in black and red (my favorite color). Temps are supposed to soar into the upper 80’s next week and for once, I’m ready! As others have said and in my best Billy Crystal imitation, “You look maaaahvelous!” 💝
I agree with the other viewers.Your hair is absolutely beautiful today. Great ideas for the summer wardrobe, I like the same styling that you do so.This was right up my alley . Do you know the name of your nailpolish color I have been looking for something in that shade and cannot find anything. On my computer it appears more coral. Love your channel! ❤️
I'm a new listener to your channel, and really enjoyed this video. I absolutely love the J Crew Elena shirtdress that you showed. In reading the reviews, several people stated that they sized down one to two sizes. Did you find the sizing that way?
This was a great video. I have most of the essentials. But living in Georgia, with three small dogs, I don’t wear a lot of white. Because it’s been raining so much and our yard isn’t great. And I have ruined a few white things already. I do buy an oatmeal or beige. But I have to be careful. I have a white linen blazer. I don’t think I’ve worn it yet. Maybe I will move it into my other closet. So I can see it. I live a very casual lifestyle and mainly just wear denim shorts and t shirts. I did go to my grandson’s school today for a program, and I wore my denim shorts and a white Iinen shirt. And I wish I would have taken a jacket. Because the air was really cold. I was happy when it was over and I could go outside.
Loved the video today. You have a glowing look so the Alaska trip must have done its job! I absolutely am thrilled with the way to tie the shirt in the from - how cool is that. I cannot get on the band wagon with the button up part of the shirt tucked. It just looks like we are trying too hard. The clothes you show really work well together.
