Gershwin composed more great music, but Summertime from Porgy and Bess is among the best pieces of music I ever heard. I do not have had an education in music, so it is difficult for me to explain why I feel it is so good. Maybe it is the mix between jazz and classical music, the great orchestra arrangement or the summary atmosphere, hot and lazy, anyway it moves me.
When I hear Ella singing this song with so much emotion. I can almost feel the baking sun on my back and the sweat dripping down my face, as I'm picking the cotton in the Summertime heat. While the rich slave owner's kids are happy, playing and laughing in the garden pond. They are the same age as me, but born in different worlds.
