HAPPY 90TH BIRTHDAY MARILYN!!!! As the description says, this video is dedicated purely to Marilyn's career in film. Instead of just re-making the same video over and over again, I wanted to do something completely different for this, my third Marilyn tribute. As a result, this video features no real-life footage of Marilyn and no real-life quotes. Because of her "sex symbol" status, Marilyn's considerable acting abilities are often underestimated and/or overlooked. I hope this video shows people a different side of Marilyn and demonstrates the considerable range she showed throughout her incredible (but tragically short) acting career.
This video came about entirely by accident. I heard this instrumental version of "Summertime Sadness" a few weeks ago and immediately thought of Marilyn. I then got my hands on "A Ticket to Tomahawk" (1950)- one of only a handful of films I'm missing from her filmography- and decided to start playing around in Sony Vegas. From there it all came together quite quickly...which is unusual for me these days (UNDERSTATEMENT OF THE YEAR). Whenever I work on a video for an actor or actress, I like to see if their birthday or death anniversary is on the horizon- to give me something to aim for- and LOW AND BEHOLD Marilyn's 90th Birthday was just around the corner, inspiring me to finish this in record time (again, editing hasn't been easy for me lately). I'm so happy I was able to make something for her. She is incredibly important to me and it makes me happy that I was able to honor her in some small way.
I'm sure I've done this before, but my Top 5 Marilyn films are (in order of release); All About Eve, The Asphalt Jungle, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Some Like it Hot and T H E M I S F I T S. The Misfits (1961) gets capitals and spaces because I also consider it to be one of my TOP 5 FILMS OF ALL-TIME. FULL STOP. Admittedly, All About Eve (1950) and The Asphalt Jungle (1950) are not necessarily great Marilyn films (her role is quite small in both), but more great films PERIOD. I love a lot of the films on this list...you can't really go wrong with Marilyn (unless you're watching her pre-1952 films which are VERY hit and miss). Also, if you haven't seen "The Misfits", you should change that immediately. It'll tear your heart into a million pieces, especially if you know anything about the principle cast and their lives pre and post-filming.
**This version of "Summertime Sadness" was performed by an incredible classical covers band called Aston. Make sure to check out more of their covers here: / astonmusic

My take: A certain movie is coming out today, and it doesn't do justice to who Marilyn was, not what, but who. The sensitivity of the creator of this video is authentic and definitely does not treat an actress as an object, but as a person: complex, passionate, emotionally lacking, sometimes innocent and sometimes not. But above all with fear, fear of not being loved. And in my opinion there are still people who are not loving her as a human being. I hope I made myself understood, both Norma Jean and Marilyn deserve respect, that's all I want to say.

She might have had a very sad life, but that doesn’t define a person. She had fun, she loved the camera, she had friends that didn’t use her, she enjoyed music and literature, and she always thirsted to be greater. Even before she died, she had good moments and good conversations with people she loved like her former stepson DiMaggio Jr. I’m done trying to know what happened that night, no matter what it was that killed her, it’s tragic any way you look at it. But the biggest tragedy was how people treated her, and sadly that never seems to end. She will be exploited until the end of time.

Actually BLONDE DOES do her justice because it HUMANIZES Norma and makes her an individual we can empathize with. The movie carefully and thoughtfully examines how childhood trauma can affect us even when we are adults. However many on RU-vid only want to see Norma Jean as the character Marilyn Monroe, but Marilyn Monroe is NOT a real person, and Norma Jean was a REAL person and she was unhappy. Judging by your comment I can tell that you didn't even watch the movie, because BLONDE definitely does NOT lack emotion, in fact it's FULL of Emotion, in addition to displaying Norma Jean/Marilyn Monroe as an intelligent and complex individual. Your video was very good, touching but your comments is complete KNOW-NOTHING Bull-Sh!t. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED of yourself for posting such trash.
@thatslight3962
@thatslight3962 Год назад
@X-MISMA-X if u wanna make a biography movie(and BLONDE isn't a biography after all, it's just fiction), it shouldn't be only about that person's trauma. You HAVE TO add about their interests, loves, success... if u only add their traumas, that movie would be nothing but a pain porn. And I watched Blonde. I wasn't talk about her pain, I was talking 'bout that MOVIE.

@henrik1314
@henrik1314 3 года назад
@@lamargames3940 It's a long story, honestly. First of all, Norma Jeane (Marilyn's real name) had a sad childhood. She never knew her father, and her mother got a mental disorder problem and couldn't no longer take care of the little Norma. So she went to a lot of adoptive houses, and even got r*ped in one of them. She had to marry a man when was 16, so then she wouldn't longer live in random adoptive houses. Then, after some years, she became a star and everyone was sexualizing her, and makign her feel bad (she even had some depression problems), she was using pills to wake up and to sleep, and it was just like a big and sad snowball. I cannot describe the whole story here, but you can know more in some searchs. Just take care, don't believe in some lies that people invented about Marilyn, one of the famoust is that Marilyn was dating the Kennedys, but it's a lie. She also never had abortions, and had only one plastic cyrurgy (on her chin).

She can be. But let's face it, it's her physical attraction that pulls you in first. And no matter what she does on camera, you are just pulled in completely. You watch no one else on the screen when she is in a scene. The camera does not capture that in most people. It is that special magic only certain people have and no one can really explain it. But seeing beyond that, I also think she was a great actress. She never got a lot of credit for that, but looking back on her pictures now (I was young when she died) I am amazed by her. But you are right in only being known as a sex symbol for the most part, she doesn't get the recognition for everything else she was and more. And this was a great video. Great movie cuts. Brought out many emotions in me from sadness to smiling.

Teresa Gib you're absolutely right. I noticed when I saw her cameo in All About Eve. She was so very young, and the part so small - two or three lines as a dumb blonde party guest - that I didn't recognized her, but I didn't paid attention to anyone but her as long as she was on screen, I totally missed the plot development. and it means everything if you can make someone ignore Mrs Bette Davis rant just by being a nobody, standing there, looking cute and sparkling and youthful. I thought she reminded me of Marilyn Monroe lol, then I checked the credits and there she was.

I was illustrating Marilyn during Lockdown and I had not really took notice of the songs she gave us at the time. As I listened to each song whilst I was illustrating, I melted. I felt she was singing at me. For an icon to still have this effect over millions to this day is extraordinary. I'm so glad we have the material from her voice, her movies and especially the many photographs that still bestow merchandise and social media today. What a legacy and I am proud to be a fan. This is a good example that no matter how "high" in life/society you are, you can still feel alone, sad, broken... We lost a good soul just too early. I hope that wherever she is, she is resting in peace.

Cassie Carter To me, the entire film “The Misfits” has that feel. It was written by Arthur Miller (Marilyn’s husband at the time) and the main character of Roslyn (note the spelling) was based on Marilyn herself. By all accounts, his depiction of her in the film was the final straw in their marriage. To me, the film feels like you’re seeing the real Marilyn- not the sex symbol and icon, but the woman. The quote at the beginning personifies that, because it shows the disconnect between her happy outward on-screen persona (particularly in her most famous films- Seven Year Itch, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and Some Like it Hot) and the real sadness she held within. Sorry, I just think she’s a fascinating subject.

Dilly Dally it was society because back then women were expected to get married have children look after the house and cook. They were underestimated because it was a patriarchy society which means men where dominants. Marilyn was often cased as the" dumb blond" even though she wasn't,'dumb' she was bright but men didn't like women with "smart mouths". If a man just let his wife of girlfriends mouth just run wild then people would say thing about him and how he can't "control" his woman. Behind all the movies and films the 1960s was a sexist society which was one of the reason for marilyn to commit suicide.

She lived such a sad life. Ever since she was a little girl, she never felt love, was abused constantly. She grew up without a mother o a father and was always blamed for being abused. That is what she knew, that is a way in which she felt comfort. You cannot blame a person for wanting to feel loved. Even though she was idolized by millions, she felt so alone. I have been doing research on her for about four years now and I can tell you that she was such a smart young woman who was just taken advantage of her whole life. This video brought me to tears.

I had to lie my whole entire life and if I got any lies wrong I got in trouble. My mom took me to my grandmas house. I got beaten everyday and was punished for helping her. She’d yell at me when she gave me homework because I didn’t know what the answer was. She threw books at me, left marks on my back from heels and switches and belts. My brother often calls me names and tells me I should kill myself. It used to be you’re too skinny now it’s you’re too fat. Logan Blake Tbh, it's kinda unknown how Marilyn died, some say suicide, some say accidental and some even say murder.. and to be honest, I believe she was murdered, she was quite troubled with a lot of important figures such as the government and the Kennedy brothers, and she was known of planning her future that year, planning for better success, roles. But you're right, she needed someone to hold her and tell her they were there for her, but she was so lonely and wasn't loved for being herself, the world was loving someone she was not..

There's something about Marilyn Monroe that people have a connection to, it's like she had REAL magic inside of her that sparked the world. It's like one of Monroe's friend's said, when they were outside, Marilyn had a scarf wrapped round her hair and two curls of hair on her forehead, nobody knew it was her. Then all of a sudden cars screeched, people stopped in shock and Marilyn turned to her friend and said "You know what i did there, didn't you?" It's like she could turn into Marilyn whenever she wanted, and have people notice. That's a true actress, someone who an switch the personality and actually be that character. Marilyn is wonderful and still stuns the world with her beauty and glamour, but people were sadly loving someone she wasn't. I wish someone truly understood this poor soul.

I have seen a video which documents some of her early life and who she actually was. She was an orphan surprisingly enough and a book worm, she died too soon, she deserved a longer life to actually show her true self and for us to know her more

Yes. Some say she was an MK mind-controlled sex slave that was broken in childhood to be remolded as an adult to influence people towards immoral Behavior. Of course we loved her she was a true pioneer. But she was broken. So sad the way the devil exploited her in her death. I prayed that God took her soul in her final moments Cayenne

I often think that if i could time travel i would travel to 1926. protect her thru her whole life, link up with her and be a TRUE friend and lover of her. Imagine blue skies, lying down on a flowery meadow with her, watching the clouds and talking to her about the meaninglest things in life... If there is heaven, i would describe it like this.

"you're the saddest girl i ever met" "i'm usually told how happy i am"/ "i can be smart, but men don't usually like it"/"it's terrible to be lonesome, especially in the middle of a crowd"/ "we're all dying"/"goodnight honey"/the wave at the end. all those quotes were so poignant..:(

When she died...all that glamour, all that beauty, she only had a few pairs of shoes but HUNDREDS of books, books to learn since she was an autodidact and signed first editions because she valued the importance of culture. Finally people have begun to respect her as a fine human being and not just a sexual object.
