⚠Just a heads up guys. Climbing with the 180 Max is different from a normal Summit climber. You should use the seat and not the shooting rail to sit and climb. The way I did it in this video was incorrect⚠
just found your channel the other day. you have hit the nail on the head with what you are doing. the food plot overview and the stand reviews. keep up the great work.
Hey Jonathan! Thanks for your input on the 180 Max! It’s great getting personal experience like you provided. Everyone I’ve talked to loves this stand👍🏻
I might have to upgrade the stand. I’m 6’0 250 and in the winter with all my gear on I’m tight in the stand. I upgraded my summit viper to the surround seat and I had 2 issues, the Velcro is loud, I’m squished in the seat being a bigger guy and the straps that hold the sides up broke after the second time in the stand. The seat is comfortable and I can sit longer but I have to tuck my jacket down into the seat and it’s s little bit of pain for the bigger guys when you have bulky clothes on. That’s just my experience and opinion. But I think I I’ll upgrade to the new stand. Thanks again brother!!
Thanks for the feedback, Quentin! I’m hoping to check out the Summit Goliath and do a comparison with that and the 180 Max. That extra room up there is nice. Definitely good to have a little more real estate when possible. 👍🏻
Cool video. How long have you been hunting out of a climbing tree stand I haven't used one since high school so 20 years ago. I was thinking about getting back into it to have more options on the hunting land and if I wanted to try public land. Any advise or tips?
Hey Josh, thanks so much for checking out my channel! It's maybe around 10 years or so for me. I love climbers in that you can go anywhere and get yourself set for a successful hunt. I have a good bit of climbing treestand content on my channel. Here is a video on how I hike in with my gear: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0MM8x2-RSz4.html Here is one on how I climb: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-v0O-2UU_rL4.html and here is one with my top 3 climber accessories: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QGSkWW8bYfA.html I also have a lot of Summit Climber videos if you are debating what to go. Thanks for watching and best of luck!
@mountainbuck thank you for getting back to me I will definitely be watching those videos. I'll be going with summit stand for sure that was my first climbing stand 20 plus years ago. I want a big and comfortable one. I'm around 300 pounds now but I'm working on that so hopefully by hunting season I'll be alot less.
@@joshuaeck2712 Good for you man! I'm working on dropping a few myself. The Max 180 might be perfect for you. It's super comfortable. I'm hoping to review some of Summit's other bigger stands as well, like the Goliath. Best of luck with whatever you choose and in the upcoming season. 👍
Hey Kenneth! That’s strange… that shooting rail always serves as a seat to sit on and climb with. I’m not even sure how you would go about climbing sitting in the actual seat facing the tree 🤔
@mountainbuck you reverse the seat and sit to climb. The rail on the 180 bows more than any other summit stand. You can easily fall through the rail while reaching for the foot stirrups. Rig up a rope to sit on while you climb it or reverse the seat.
So my next question is to pack it together do I have to take those footsteps off And at little black bungie cord? Because I can't put the stand together so I can carry it Into the Woods

@@mountainbuck …this video was the „missing moment“ for me to decide that the 180 MAX SD is the right seat for me. I‘m going to place my order today ;-)
Hey thanks so much, Jason! It would depend on a number of factors. The 180 is 6 lbs heavier, so if I’m hiking long distances or up hills, that would be a factor when you add in all your other gear. The second thing I would consider is your size. A bigger guy might need the extra room and weight capacity of the 180. Both are excellent stands and super comfortable, so you can’t go wrong in my opinion! Summit also makes an Open Shot climber with no shooting rail, which may be easier to get shots off with a bow. Best of luck with whatever you choose! You will love your Summit 👍🏻
@@mountainbuck This is very helpful! I’m thinking of going with the Viper Pro. The accessories like the phone holder, bow holder and hangers on the railing would be nice. From your experience, does the front railing on the Viper Pro require you to stand up on all shot types? Obviously shots just below you will require you to stand up no matter what. Appreciate your help!
@@jasonverdelli463 hey Jason, I actually hunt archery with a crossbow, so I don’t have much experience using these stands with a compound bow. The shooting rail/climbing seat for these is pretty low, so you might be ok depending on how high you have your seat positioned. I’m a really big fan of the Viper Pro, however and did a full review of it and showed all of the FasTrack accessories: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fqjW8fyw3G4.html
@@mountainbuck Very good point about that it depends on the seat height. The no railing only impacts straight forward shots anyway. Last question before I purchase, do you have a promo code, or if not, a unique link that I can follow to buy? Not sure how you get credit, but would love to help you out considering how great your videos are and how helpful you are in the comments.
@@jasonverdelli463 hey thanks so much man! Totally not necessary, but if you order through Amazon, I would get a small percentage (at no cost to you) if you clicked through one of the links in my video descriptions. Thanks again and let me know how you like your Summit! 👍🏻
Hey Erik! Under Armour doesn't sell this specific jacket anymore, but I found a couple on eBay: www.ebay.com/itm/324986195677?hash=item4baaafcedd:g:98YAAOSw92xh21yy Best of luck and thanks for watching!
@Mountain Buck haha I was kidding thanks for the reply. Btw I have that Summit pro harness is awesome. I'm getting a climber next season. I enjoy the videos, keep them going!!
Hey MakingHope! I planting No Plow in the spring and my ferns overtook the area. I planted that location over again in the fall with Secret Spot and it came up really well: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-otU6_-D1rzk.html
I’m pretty sure “Hot Hands” will not go through your cold weather gear plus the seats material and actually make a difference. They don’t get that hot unless you’re hunting in your long underwear only.
That stand isn't designed to sit on the outer rail while climbing. It will get you killed vs the regular stands as the top rail is bowed out more. Designed to sit in the seat and climb. I'm not going to reverse the seat to do that. Rig up a rope and tie it to make a spot to sit while climb. This is the way the book tells you to climb it only in the seat reversed. I'm a big guy and can fall through the top rail pretty easy while reaching my feet for the bottom part. Please don't sit on the rail it's very dangerous. They are more rounded on the top rail than any of the others.
I like to hunt facing the tree and sitting on that front rail for hours seems like a bad idea to me. This is the first modern climber I’ve found that will let me do this, so I’m glad it exists.
@@mountainbuckthat would make sense. Do you think the chair is comfortable enough to be used permanently towards tree? My concern is the rail being in my back through the chair all day
@@J_Un1tgreat question! I think you should be able to position it in a way where you aren’t hitting that bar the entire time. That bar also has some padding to help out as well 👍🏻
