The History: This beautiful Doppelmayr Alpen-Star quad chairlift replaced the old Summit platter in a completely new allignment. The original Summit platter was built in 1976 by Mueller, and traversed over very steep terrain near the top (there is a video of this lift here: • Riding the Button Lift... ). In 2020, Lake Louise recieved permission from Parks Canada to not only replace the lift in a completely new allignment, but also to open up the expansive "West Bowl Expansion". Instead of starting where the old platter started, the new Summit quad starts near the "Top of the World" chair, and ends where the Summit platter ended. It has really transformed the ride to the summit, and it is a very comfortable lift to ride. Overall, I see this lift lasting Lake Louise a long time, and can't wait for their new Lower Juniper Express to open soon!
The Lift: This chair is a Doppelmayr Alpen-Star quad. It has 8 towers and 72 chairs. The chairs on this lift have slatted backrests, due to the windy location it is in. This lift has a mixture of towers; some towers are European style, while other towers are North American style. The top bullwheel of this lift is on a big slab of concrete.
