I love your reviews. You always cover what I want to know about a game and deliver it well. That being said, I should know better than to watch one of your reviews when I'm trying not to buy games. This is one that'll need to go on my wishlist.
I was never attracted to roguelikes, the concept sounds bad to me. But I kept hearing nothing bit good things about Dead Cells and I decided to try it. I've been playing it for two years and don't think I'll stop any time soon. It's a game I play between games or whenever I just feel like it. I'm waiting for the price to drop a little to buy the version with the Castlevania crossover on physical disc.
I thought the exact same thing… clear and well explained, Perfect length, intelligently reviewed, comfortable and likable without being annoying… Subscribed! :-)
Thank you. I had no idea this existed because no one (else) I follow has talked about it. I played Aeterna Noctis a few years ago and quit about 2/3 of the way through. Maybe I can redeem myself by finishing this one, lol.
when the spear spinning is stolen from the skeletons in castlevania :P you know the hommage will be there ! Feels a little like the SNES gem Musya too !
Wow! that seed mechanic is dope as a concept! Unfortunately this game looks like it challenges everything I suck at. That dash in 1:36 and that fall-dash-dash-jump you did in 2:14.... I'd die 10 times before getting past these parts.
I've been playing this for a while now. You nailed every aspect of this scroller! Your staying power with games is a lot better then mine!! For Sure. I'm like a cat that someone rolls a tinfoil ball down the hall and I chase it!! NEXT! Thanks for posting
This kind of game isn't really my jam, but it definitely had Pam written all over it! It looks like a beautiful game, and fun for those who like Roguelite and Metroidvania games. I get confused with games that have a lot of information and things to keep track of. Thanks for the review!
The game looks freaking great, but when you said it doesn't have much of a story i was like " dam, Dam, DAAAAAM! A story is very important to me. So I'm not sure if I wanna even try it now. I'll look at more reviews and see what other people have to say. Thx for your review.
That's a nice and compact review, I loved it... Scythe is OP af, bosses are incredible easy, "random" map/rooms/seeds are easy to navigate, even with 3 curses upon you regular enemies can't do anything to your character, is a good game but a waaaaaaaaay step down from AN in terms of difficulty.
I played the crap out of actual Rogue back in the day, so I don’t mind rogue-likes. Most are a big improvement on the concept. I’ll have to look deeper into investing in this one. Thanks for the heads-up, Pam!
The last metroidvania I completed was- well, Metroid (Super Metroid)! lol. But this was a nice, comprehensive review that got me interested a bit in trying a more modern metroidvania
@@Cannotbetamed1It sure looks like one. Reminds me a lot of the Castlevania games in some ways, particularly on the GBA, and I know the prequel Aeterna Nocti is considered a metroidvania. Platformer, metroidvania, rougelite, etc. Some of them are kind of mixed genre-types
Looks like a pretty good game, I don't really like the character portraits very much. They don't look evil enough for the setting but the in game character art looks great. I'm backlogged and busy but I'll definitely check it out sometime and get my arse handed to me in abundance 😂 How's Lilly Dog? My cats are getting some hellacious winter coats, so I'm expecting a brutal winter 🥶
@@Cannotbetamed1 she's a classic now but she always looks well groomed and in good shape. I just had a Birthday myself, turned classic but still can't control my own will 😂
Got Noctis Aeterna days ago...now this. Im very much enjoying both of them...this one im still figuring out..its more fun and rewarding than Dead Cells imo but i prefer the MetroidVania of the first game.
Never heard of bullet like, but Rogue like…. instant mmmmm ok. Give a miss. Ai generated dungeons with random loot, hard pass. Reminds me of the “loop” of various descriptions. I don’t want a “point of interest every x,y,z seconds.” I’m starting to become disillusioned with metroidvanias a bit. Jedi Survivor has been absolutely fantastic though. I was surprised how great it was.
@@mrmagoo-i2l i made bulletlike up, but I see its a thing. What gets me is the size of some modern retro games, most 2d games shoud not be over a few hundred MB at minimum IMO ( see 'kkreiger', it is 96kilobytes and is a 3d 1st person shooter!)
Love you Pam. Apropos of nothing, this developer lost all respect from me with their switch port of Aeterna Noctis. It is completely unplayable. An unacceptable port that sits on the eshop to steal money from unsuspecting children when it’s on sale, a la so much other shovelware. You get nothing from me for being a grubby capitalist.
It really underscores the foolishness of roguelikes, which is that early computers of the 1980s didn't have hard drives because storage was so expensive. They weren't supposed to emulate them, but move into the real world with saved games.
Nice video. To the devs. Y’all suck! I wasted my money on Aeterna noctis when it first came out. It crashed so much on my ps4 that it was literally unplayable. They wouldn’t refund me. A lot of people have experienced the same thing. And to my knowledge, y’all still haven’t fixed the game. How about you make your first game playable, and fix it, before you come out with another gimme-more-money game! To anyone reading this, I’d check online if this new game by them crashes a lot or not before spending any money. Back to the devs: fix your broken a$$ game!!!
this is by far the worst roguelike ive ever played. Good graphics, good movement, it had everything to be an incredible game but as always the devs wanted to show how "difficult" their games are and went above and beyond to make the initial grind absolutely ridiculoius. you're always weak at the start of every rogulike, thats part of the experience but summum aeterna is totaly unfair and you have to grind quite a bit just to get to the bare minimum so you can enjoy the game. I usualy buy games that i enjoy to suport the devs, but on this game im simply not buying it because i dont want to start all over from strach, the initial experience is so bad i never want to see this game again.
This game was a confusing mess. Why is the dude white haired when his portait is clearly black haired? Why does the tutorial explain the swords Y attack, but nothing anywhere explains any other? Why do I have a menu that's full of goals like 'kill X Y enemies' with no explanation at all on what this is? Achievements? Goals? Just for fun and rewarded? Why does it only have one resolution setting? Why is my guy being called a bad-ass immortal, but he's looks 3 inches tall when you see him near boss and the very first guy you meet can tank infinite hits from him, instantly making him look weak? The mc was super unlikeable, all he does is huff his own farts and he's not even consistent with that; at one point he says the chick he fights 'stood no chance', then all his other dialogue posits that she's a massive threat I wouldn't even say the progression "amount" is impressive or fun given just how much of this games progression is literally just stat padding. Outside of the weapons blacksmith upgrades there's basically nothing to care about upgrading, its just '+1% attack', '+2% to [mechanic I don't even know what it is]', etc Its really shocking this is the second game in this series yet its in this state
