Thanks for adding me to the VLOG! I have to admit that I read “The Course” before the flight out and holy cow what a difference. Between that and all the knowledge you share, my game has improved significantly. Thanks for the inspiration Doug and thanks to your family as well.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family Doug! Another great blog. I know I'm in the minority but disagree with Zeus on that bomb pot, I just call with the straight on the low end on the turn.
@dougmccuskerpoker
@dougmccuskerpoker 2 года назад
Thanks David, hope you have a good Turkey Day as well. I think that raising and folding to a 3 bet is probably the best way to proceed. Because I hate bomb pots in general, I have a tendency to be over cautious. My position would allow me to extract some value on the end, but charging draws on the turn is where most of my value should come from.

I'm the guy that was talking and folded the pocket jacks! Yeah, looking back, I apologize Doug. I was probably a variable in the SB folding to your jam. Not trying to offer an excuse here, but definitely not typical of me to talk or show/tell people my hands. I was excited to play with you. Part of me talking was to convince myself to fold (I love calling), and also just to discuss my thinking process in realtime with a player I respect.

7:00 being conservative on bomb pots is wise. Flatting here (with the 3rd nuts) is not conservative, it's wrong. You don't know how many outs to chop/win you're tying to fade, and now you're going to allow flush draws to get better than correct odds to call. You don't say what the stacks are, but I'd make it $225. You're likely to get folds from everything except two pairs and flush draws, which is fine. You're denying correct odds to them to see the river. Then you get to go for stacks against the two pairs or sets on the river, and the flush folds. If you get 3-bet on the turn, you can probably fold relatively easily. But this was one of the larger mistakes I've seen you make in a while. IMO YMMV.

Hey, btw, the flop is really bad for UTG1 range (A5hh hand), and CO range should be ahead. I'd just check flop. You do get extra equity with the 5 ott, but you also get sdv.
@dougmccuskerpoker

It was optimistic of me to cbet the flop, trying to deny equity from over cards like Kx, Qx, and maybe they would fold an A. Felt he was drawing, so bet the turn and hopefully win at showdown.

I thought your all in was kinda chancy especially towards the end of the day. You put your bet with Andrew at risk too. On the other hand, you might be a victim of variance if you tried to get value. BTW, his call with the 33 is just inexcusable from the turn on. Once the 6's trip up, he's drawing *dead* against larger pairs (e.g. yours). He hits a miracle 2-outer, it doesn't change anything. This is just lighting money on fire.

Yeah, the table talk at 14:20 is pretty bad, *especially* with a 3rd player in the pot. I get that it's a meet-up game, yada, but our game has rules, even when we're playing kinda for fun. There's serious money at risk here, and as you said, this guy may be playing a bit above his heads - others might be as well. My point here is that you're the host, and you can set the tone - simply say, "Folks, you know the rules - no discussion. You go ahead and make your decision, we'll all be quiet, and you can talk about it after the cards are on their backs."
@dougmccuskerpoker
@dougmccuskerpoker 2 года назад
I expected the dealer to say something about the talk, I normally very quite during a hand I’m involved in. If I was involved, I would have spoke up. Strange situation.
@leehjones
@leehjones 2 года назад
@@dougmccuskerpoker the dealers have little or no motivation to step in. Often the biggest sources of protocol problems are also the best tippers and/or the most frequent players. They're exactly the people that the dealers can't afford to alienate. I try hard to keep my mouth shut because it rarely does any good, but in your specific role as a MUG host, I think it's valuable and appropriate for you to set a tone for good etiquette.

I can't blame you for the AA jam. If you happen to be called by AK great, if a non believing QQ calls that's fine too. Jamming there eliminates any chance of value owning yourself turn and river. Putting more chips in when you have the best hand isn't a bad thing.
@dougmccuskerpoker
@dougmccuskerpoker 2 года назад
I expected him to snap call or snap fold, when he tanked, I thought he wanted to gamble and was looking for a way to call. Smaller sizing would have probably sucked him in for a 2 outer. I was pretty tired at the time, wasn’t thinking clearly. A raise to 400 and jam the turn looks the most reasonable.
@joeyp3094

@Bobbypinker
@Bobbypinker 2 года назад
You got insanely lucky with that 55 hand. Both callers have 77, 88, 99, and 1010 in their range preflop. Narrowing either of them down to AK is wishful thinking, not hand analysis. It's what you want them to have, not what they're likely to have, particularly when they call the turn (plus, a lot of AK is 3betting pre). Turn bet is horrendous when all those pocket pairs now have a better boat. There's no reason to think AK or AQ would call there with a 6266 board. Just check for pot control. 55 is not that strong of a hand. Don't let the results color your view of this hand. This guy just happened to be a call station donk too bad to let go of 33 on that turn. Against even a marginally good player, or any player with 77 thru 1010, you value own yourself into losing your entire stack. Yikes.
@dougmccuskerpoker
@dougmccuskerpoker 2 года назад
You make some excellent points. I was concerned that he had a bigger pair, I thought my line could get some folds from medium pocket pairs. If I pot control and check turn, I am now having to fade over cards and him seeing the river with 100% of his medium pairs. It maybe to hopeful for tough games, but in small stakes games opponents over fold to aggression. I would most likely call a river bet after checking turn on brick run outs, might as well put some pressure on. My read on his turn call was that he was weak, 66 or 77 were probably the top of his range. So 12 combos beat me and the rest I had the best. I decided to shove river, if I felt he was stronger, I would check the river. Thanks for your comment, I will spend more time thinking about it and ask a friend who is very knowledgeable also. But those were my thoughts at the time.
@Bobbypinker
@Bobbypinker 2 года назад
@@dougmccuskerpoker 66 isn't possible with three of them on the board. I still think 77 thru 1010 should be his range the way the hand was played. 33 should've been a snap-fold turn for him if you, the preflop 3-better, bet out, and once he calls, you should just check it down and hope 55 holds up. I was shocked to see 33. How can he not put you on a higher pocket pair when you made it $50 pre? So bad.
