..not only did I love this film, I love the passion of this band. I have not felt this emotion watching this film in a very very long time. It must win the academy award for best documentary!

great comments here.i saw Anvil 1st in 1982 in the UK at the Donington Rock Festival and when they came back to the UK last August in Deal and they still play just as hard whether its to 1000's of people or just a small hall.i can pay them no higher compliment.Lips and Robb,thank you for the music!

Anvil deserves a ton of credit, not just for their considerable body of work, but also for helping usher in the speed/thrash metal genre. In addition, "Lips" Kudlow is truly a nice guy. A friend and I e-mailed the band to request permission to use Anvil songs on our public access show, and Lips himself answered us, wishing us luck and demanding absolutely nothing in return. I hope this film gets the band some much-deserved love.

Watched this yesterday. I listen to HipHop and don't even own a rock album. But these guys are great. One of the best, if not, the best documentary i have ever seen.

this movie was absolutly incredible! Sacha definitly did the band justice.This film had it all,the reviews were all dead on...it made you laugh,it made you cry,its one of the best independent films I have ever seen. 10/10 ive been a fan of Anvil since 1985,and its great to see classic thrash bands still around and getting recognition today.Same can be said for bands like Overkill,Annihilator,Exodus,Exciter,Testament,Infernal Majesty,Onslaught,etc. LONG LIVE THRASH,LONG LIVE ANVIL!

my cousin wrote and directed this movie it won the LA film festival!! I partied at his house in Hollywood Hills with the band and I stayed there for 5 nights!!! IT was so awesome! ANvil played live after their movie at the LA film festival. Lips (The lead singer) is so nice and Robbo is also really nice and same with G5

i just came home from seing the movie at The Music Box in chicago. i've been playing music since 1970 and this film really tugged at my heart. after the film ended lips robb and glenn 5 walked into the theater and really gave us a surprise of being there. they had a 2o minute Q&A. they are so down to earth. afterward i got all three of them to sign there new cd THIS IS THIRTEEN. what a treat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Total respect for Anvil simply because they have spirit, yes they do. THE TRUE DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH. Cool, down to earth, real beings and truly smiling at life, still laughing at all that has been thrown at them...they are certainly not inflated, pompous, disposable idols.

I wouldn't be a major fan of metal, but this is one of the best Rock/Documentarys i've seen in a long time, Lips and Rob are just 2 down to earth, sound blokes, if it wasn't for bad luck they'd have no luck at all, i hope this film gives them the recoginition and riches they deserve.

As many others have commented. This documentary is just so good & the people in it are just so likable. I almost imeddiately just felt bad with em' not breaking through cause damn, that Lips really have the heart of a rocker. As he say also say in the documentary, he don't care if he plays for 5 or for 5 thousand people, he just want to play his music. Would defo watch that documentary again, kudos to the director.

A little anecdote! Back in the '80's I was in this PACKED club in Toronto (Rock'n Roll Heaven) and I was there to see another band (SUCCSEXX). I accidently stepped on Lips' foot and he turns to ME and APOLOGIZES!!! I thought for SURE he would've told me OFF!!! You SEE!!!! That's the kind of MENSCHES!!!! (Gentlemen) these guys are!! They are the COOLEST, KINDEST people you would EVER MEET!! I'm SO HAPPY that they are getting the RECOGNITION they DESERVE!! TONIGHT SHOW was GREAT!

In the movie, Lemmy, Slash, Tom Araya and Scott Ian all cite Anvil as influences. If they say that Anvil were good, then they were. It's a compelling film, regardless of whether you like the band or not. Another great metal doc is Metal: A Headbanger's Journey, just in case you havent seen it. See how I got my point across without name calling or swearing?!

@Sergioloser
@Sergioloser 15 лет назад
well, many people have said that Anvil aren't that great, maybe you're right. At the same time, Im going to try and see them in Calgary, June 25th. Why, because I had their first album when I was in junior or senior high, and they were relevant at the time. They cant compete with Slayer, Megadeth (another show I will be attending this month), but thats not the point, is it? they have persevered, never gave up, and that shows and builds character.

They released an album during the movie in wich it only sold 4,000 copies, i think the name was this is 14 or thirteen idk lol. the new album hasnt been released yet and dont realy know if they have a record label. If they cant make their new album sell then you are right, they are a below then average band.

@guitarguymusthaphawa 15 лет назад
no it doesnt i just saw it today and it just shows how hard its been for them and what its like to keep onto there dream the only reason people compare it to spinal tap is because its the same type of stage that the imaginary spinal tap band was at in der carrer with empty stadiums and such its really a great movie go see it !!!!!!

Hey everybody, stop knocking this guy. He is just expressing his opinion. I LOVE Anvil, but I can also see their shortcomings as well, and the truth being what it is, their lyrics are horrible in some songs, and that is the truth. But I will still buy every one of their albums because I LOVE Anvil, flaws and all.

I am a former F-DIC bank examiner who was stopped at the border with a young actress who I gave a ride. If you see Larissa Clayton, tell her I could not get the link off of the web. She did not know I was hated by the fed for being honest. Sweet Larissa's tears wanted to go to Sundance. Want to direct a movie? A living auditor fight club with Allah-Bama's version of Forrest in Jesus. Want Larissa, google these words "saint ram bone canada border patrol actress"

here's the deal - if they wrote better songs, they would have been bigger. they have paid a lot of dues, but in the long run, the bands that left them in the dust all those years ago were superior in talent and creativity. this wasn't just another case of them missing the train; they never had a ticket.
@dickravis
@dickravis 15 лет назад
they knew for a year that this film was coming out. the fact that they couldn't / didn't get a label or a distribution deal to capitalize on the publicity afforded by the movie speaks volumes. it tell us that NOOOOOOOOOBODY wants to touch these guys with a ten foot pole and that there is a COLOSSAL hole where the management is supposed to be. i'd love to be wrong, but i'm not; this is a below average band that got 15 minutes in the sun and it's just about over ...hold on a second ...now.

dude - when i saw A:TSoA on tuesday may 5th (09) in san jose, ca robb and lips were there at the screening. they said as of that date they had only sold 4000 units of their latest record. FOUR THOUSAND?!? even with all this hype they're not selling units? now why don't you ask the members of anvil if THEY believe that units sold is an indicator of success and something they'd like to improve upon. nice try.
