Most of what physicists understand today was also understood to some degree by some of humanity’s greatest thinkers 2,600 years ago. Then, free thought and speech got shut down for more than a millennium. In this sermon, we’ll imagine what the world might be like today if we had gone to the Moon before Christ was born, or had the internet before the rise of the Roman Empire, or vaccines before the Black Plague, along with so many other of today’s knowledge and technologies. More importantly, we’ll consider what the future might be like if, today, we miss our opportunity to embrace the plethora of ideas that lead to human creativity, innovation, and advancement.
