Have you noticed the abscess on Chunk's right cheek?

I'm pretty sure Chunk has a tooth abscess. Between the swelling on his right cheek and the amount of frothing he's doing, which is a HUGE difference from his other apple videos (such as: Chunk Lip Smacking an Apple - Season 1), there's a very good chance our beloved boy needs treatment. Any chance you could call a wildlife/exotic Vet to discuss it? Maybe if they know he's the most famous Groundhog in the world, and were to examine his videos, perhaps they'd prescribe an antibiotic that you could sneak into his food. Though it's doubtful they'd do it without seeing him. But it's worth a call to ask! Saying prayers for our Chunk boy!!!

In addition to my post above, I wanted to add this thought: Perhaps if you tell the Vet about all the publicity he would get if he prescribes something for Chunk... that would make the Vet more inclined to prescribe an antibiotic without you physically bringing him in. And there are lot of wildlife/exotic Vets out there who make house calls, if you can trap him. And if there's not a wildlife/exotic Vet nearby, a wildlife rehabber in the area may be able to help. But it would still require getting a trap and trapping Chunk. I pray I'm completely wrong about this though and that he's just packing on pounds for the winter and has an excess fat accumulation on that side... and that the apple was just so darn yummy that he couldn't help but excessively drool. (Also, if you go the route of the wildlife rescue/rehabber to help, tell them about all the publicity they would get from helping Chunk, which would directly result in donations to their rescue)! I'll shut up now. :) You guys have to do what you think is best, and that could mean letting nature take it's course since he's a wild animal. Perhaps up his intake on immune boosting foods?

Abscesses tend to get encysted which is why they reoccur even when antibiotics clear them up for a time. The cyst wall, creates a big pocket and needs to be surgically removed. There is also the chance it could be caused by a bad tooth etc...which adds another layer of veterinarian involvement. The bottom line is that he needs to be treated by a veterinarian!

@orphan 200 Groundhogs have 18 chewing teeth, as well as four chisel-shaped incisors. And if you look at the amount of frothing he's doing in this video compared to his other apple videos (such as: Chunk Lip Smacking an Apple - Season 1), you can see he had no swelling and doesn't froth anything like he's doing here. Praying he doesn't have a tooth abscess, but the evidence seems to point toward it. :(

I agree, looks like Pesky snagged some food from the Chunk lair. The look on Chunk's face when Pesky photobombs the camera is priceless.

The foamy apple face might not be a good thing. Notice the swelling on the right side of his face? Coupled with the fact that he doesn't foam like that with other apple videos (such as: Chunk Lip Smacking an Apple - Season 1), there's a chance he might have a tooth abscess. Praying that's not the case.

Praying you're right. But check out his other video entitled, "Chunk Lip Smacking an Apple - Season 1," and you'll see a huge difference in the size of his right cheek and amount of frothing (drooling), he's doing now.

There not fat cheeked like chipmunks. They dont foam up at the mouth when they eat if they are healthy.

Of course he's in pain it's an abscess that needs to be taken care of by a vet
