(1991) A single woman with three children realizes that her family has lost sight of their values and gives up her career as a daytime-drama actress in New York to move back with her extended family on their Texas farm.
Also featured here is blues singer Oscar Brown, Jr. One I'd his most famous songs is called "The Snake." The song's lyrics were often recited by Donald Trump at his rallies in 2015-2016 until he was stopped by the Brown family. The song lyrics were prophetic.
NBC in the late 80’s and early 90’s was pushing out black sitcoms, but after 1993 after ADW ended its 6 season run, and Cosby Show a year before, it just which really only left Fresh Prince of Bel Air. The era really died out between 1992-93.
@@ViraL_FootprinT.ex.e exactly. I’m shocked. I will admit that at this time I was in college at FAMU and may not have noticed between work, school, and partying. 😂. But still this is an awful lot for us to not know anything about.
This show was about a single mom of three children who gives up her acting career in NYC to reconnect with her lineage roots in rural Texas. In reality, Debbie Allen is a native of Houston, Texas.
One of the best pilots Ive seen. Debbie was naturally hilarious. I’m shocked this wasn’t picked up especially with A different world in its prime. They probably didn’t want Debbie to lose focus on a different world.
This is so deep, my mom moved us out of the big city for rural Texas during crack Era. This pilot episode hit hard I remember her family claiming she turn her back on her family too back then. I had my own horse and earn a football (athletic) scholarship. My mom a real one for that
It's truly a shame that this amazing pilot didn't receive the green light it deserved. The storyline is captivating, with a big city girl rediscovering her country roots alongside her children. The stark contrast between her journey from a young dreamer in New York, getting married, having three children, and going through a divorce adds depth to the narrative. The pressures of being a single mother and a struggling actress become overwhelming, making her decision to return to the South all the more intriguing. The show explores the intricate layers of a possible generational curse among women, highlighting the opportunity for it to be broken. It would have been incredible to witness the dynamic between Diahann Carroll and Debbie Allen as they heal their relationship, while Debbie Allen also works on mending her bond with Essence Atkins. This storyline goes beyond the typical City Girl returns to her Country Roots trope, delving into deeper themes. If only pilots could be given a second chance in today's industry... Unfortunately, the absence of Diahann Carroll and John Witherspoon leaves a void in the energy of the show. Nevertheless, the pilot has assembled a beautiful ensemble cast, and each member has made their mark in the entertainment industry there afterwards of this pilot. Sunday in Paris is truly a gem of black entertainment history.
This is so funny! It's outrageous that this show wasn't picked up!!! Debbie Allen is genius and talented. Diahann Carol!! Come on!! NBC have missed on a big change to support a sitcom about black woman and their family!
This show is truly something special because Diahann Carroll's personality and elegance still shine through, despite playing a character completely different from her famous role as Dominique Deveraux in Dynasty. She effortlessly exudes class and sophistication, even in the extreme rural atmosphere of Paris, TX. It would have been amazing to see Diahann fully embrace and bring to life her country bougie personality on a weekly basis.
Very interesting cast setup for the fact that Jurnee and Diahann would reunite on the movie Eve’s Bayou. The director Kasi Lemmons mentioned in an interview when she finally cast Eve, she mentioned it to the adult cast and Diahann immediately said “Oh, I know Jurnee! She’s a spooky little girl, isn’t she…”
I'm so confused???? How did this ALL-STAR CAST with nothing but legends and icons get dusted???? I need some answers immediately!!!! #Justice4SundayInParis 😢
Don’t forget, Brandon Quintin Adams from Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker, The Mighty Ducks, The Sandlot and Polly the tv movie with Phylicia Rashad and Keisha Knight Pulliam. Debbie Allen even Directed & Choreographed the film.
I really liked this video and the cast is great. Jenifer Lewis and John Witherspoon are always hysterical 🤣🤣🤣🤣 But one thing: this aired in 1991 and if this got picked up, Debbie Allen would have probably had to leave “A Different World” as the producer and director. That would have been a shame because she did a great job with that show when she joined it in season 2.
The amount of star power in this cast is wild. And all of the Smollett siblings have such easily recognizable facial features, and I suppose just strong genetics, that I knew who the little girl was right away. Way before the credits rolled 🤣 RIP Daihann Carroll, Oscar Brown Jr. & John Witherspoon.
This show had a great cast. I wish it would have been given a chance. Debbie Allen is as beautiful as ever! Look at Pops!!! aka John Witherspoon. Jennifer Lewis, Diahann Carroll, Journey, Brandon Adams!!! I would have loved to see a few seasons of this!
Jennifer Lewis 😂 John Witherspoon Jurnee Smollet, Essence, Debbie Allen and Diahan Carroll. It was a lot of sitcoms in the 90s. I never heard or seen this sitcom before Thanks for sharing
Wow this was a great pilot how in the world this didn't get picked up Debbie Morgan Essence Atkins Jennifer Lewis John Witherspoon Diahann Carroll N the young Jurnee Smollett wow this could of been TV history of classic TV. They never give black TV a chance
Another great show! Whyyyyyy we didn't get greenlights on these gems you are sharing is mind blowing. The writing is so good. The cast was phenomenal! R.I.P. to the greats!
Damn how did I miss this pilot back in the early 90s? I see we got Essence Atkins from Smart Guy and the Wayans brothers shows and movies and we got Jurrnee Smollett from Full House , On Our Own in which she stared along with her brother Jessie Smollett before she went along and did Love Craft Country, John Whiterspoon of course a.k.a Pops from The Wayans and Boondocks. And then we got my boy Brandon Adams from Michael Jacksons MoonWalk , The Mighty Ducks 1 and 2, the Sandlot and People Under the Stairs
WOW, I loved EVERY DANG DETAIL of this show, as my professor said...Everyone has a down home and a back home. I too hated the summer trek to be in the woods as a city girl and I am so grateful for it now! I know Debbie Allen is just a woman but I absolutely adore her, lol. Met John Witherspoon as a young woman he was lovely. Ms. Carroll - perfection.... Jennifer Lewis - loved her all my lifetime.
So Many Legends in this pilot from the children to the adults! The one liners are superb! RIP Ms. Carrol, Mr. Witherspoon, Mr. Brown! "Okay Jenny Craig!"😄
Jurnee Smollett had to be 6? Incredible cast Oscar Brown Jr ,Diahann Carroll John Witherspoon, Debbie Allen, Essence Atkins Brandon Jenifer Lewis... All heavy hitters.
I would've loved to see how far this show went. Uncle Fredic was hilarious. I also wonder if Sunday would eventually hook up with her old flame Russell.
