Sunday League is a documentary that followed the plights of several Sunday football teams across England over the course of a season as they took to the muddy fields and parks to play this not so beautiful version of the beautiful game. This film focuses more on the people who play, rather than the sport itself and asks the question 'Why do Sunday Footballers keep coming back week after week?'

Thanks for this documentary. It did capture what Sunday football is. I am now 50 and stopped playing fifteen years ago, I had played for my Sunday team since I was sixteen. Not a Sunday goes by when I don't miss it. Some of the funniest moments of my life were playing Sunday football or associated with the team. We once had a goalkeeper called Roy Pigeon who was absolutely massive. One match he came out for a cross and in an attempt to punch the ball missed and flattened the opposition striker. The headlines in our local paper Sunday round up?.." Striker knocked out by 20 stone pigeon" . Oh Great days and thanks for making and posting this video.

Captured the real essence of what it's all about. Who wants to sit and play football on a computer when you can actually get out and play for real? It really is a shame that there is so little official investment in weekend local football. Schools selling off their sports fields, Local councils doing the same to turn a quick profit on yet another retail park. Football has been one of the founding aspects of a community, it breaks down race & ethnic barriers because above all you respect the abilities of a fellow player - albeit often not when they nutmeg you time and again during a game!

Great documentary but I feel you give too much respect to some of the people in the interview. Personally, having lived and played grassroots football my whole life I find English football to be a mess. The whole culture of football in this country is wrong. It seems to attract the most hostile, aggressive arrogant types of people, usually with very large mouths and very small brains. It needs addressing as I feel its the main reason for this country's lack of homegrown talent. It filters down to the kids. I was tought that winning at all costs was more important than trying to play nice football, play as a team and play to improve. My club was full of egos, there was no community about it ... Good players are often afraid of expressing themselves due to this negative agressive culture and those that aren't soon get it kicked out of them...there isn't a willingness to learn and support each other. I have a good understanding of the game but unfortunately bullys in the team seem to think kicking the ball long all the time is how the game should be played. So instead I mostly play tennis. Why? Because it has a community feel. It doesn't attract egos...we listen to advice but most importantly you feel encouraged and free to have fun of the game. When I play matches in tennis the aim is to improve and have fun, winning is secondary. Sadly, the culture of football has it badly warped. Football isn't a game in this country; its a war

I wouldn't say it's a war but I've played in grassroots football and I've experienced what you've experience particularly with the egos. Look at Dutch and German footballers no egos and they have great success by teamwork

I’ve been playing men’s football since I was 17, so 13 years later I feel like the standard has got a lot better in the terms of teams are ran better, from people being generally a lot fitter than what it used to be like back when I started out 3/4 of the teams smoked some even had a pint before a game (Saturday football for me is 2pm KO) and never really looked after themselves. Regarding to the club be better run, Training at least 1 day a week and also people turning up to games and training at the right times, You do get teams now and again that don’t show up to play football they just want to kick you and hurt you in any way they can it’s frustrating but I feel like this is filtering out. Imo where we are being let down is by the FA and local councils. Teams need help on the money side because it actually cost quite a bit to run a team and without any support it’s tough. I’ve seen teams fold and have been in teams that have folded because of the money. I’m not sure if or how much the FA help with this stuff as I don’t get to this stuff. Time to comment on the pitches, They can be so bad, I feel like this is partly why you get the long ball tactic over in the UK, When you can’t trust the true roll of a pitch you just end up clipping it long. Now lastly this is the big shame, when I started there were 6 divisions with 12 - 14 teams in the leagues now there are 2 leagues both with 10 teams in, either people are just not playing football or joining semi pro clubs or joining better leagues. I live in a place where there are a few different leagues.

The Champions League Final isn't for another 24 hours so I had to quench my football thirst somehow, and this just hit the spot! What a beautiful documentary. Loved it. Can't think of any way I'd rather spend a Saturday... Oh the grass ... the grass....

Exquisite piece of work. Some shots are absolutely astonishing, while the interviews are driven by passionate speeches. And the production is just enough raw to be able to showcase what football, in his general sense, is all about. Keep up the good work: the football culture needs it.

+IndependentGeorge76 That's my point. He had seen the game and still offered nothing for his team. What did he say that was constructive there? He said all that kept happening was the ball kept coming back. If I was a player I'd be thinking, okay then, how do you want us to fix that then?. If you're going to tell the team they're shite, you better have ways of changing things up.

Ian wright had plenty of attitude and a real chip on his shoulder but he made it. Class. Vinnie jones the same. Not so classy but still made a career as a pro. This racism card has to stop. It's not racism that stopped you by the sound of it it's your bad attitude. Black or white.😉

Cheers for this, I have been researching "odds on football today" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Jinarter Clever Bulldozer - (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some interesting things about it and my brother in law got great success with it.
