I visited the town of Conwy in North Wales today. I didn't know they were hosting pirates' weekend. 🤣 Everyone was in full costume, naturally I felt left out. Then I clock a hat shop selling tricorn hats, in the window display. The shop was closed! 🙄😩 I thought of you Max! 🤣🤣

It's all very well to go on about how great the Green's policies are and how Labour isn't addressing such-and-such a key issue, but they aren't living in the real world of politics. They aren't going to gain enough seats to govern, so they won't be expected to deliver on their promises, where Labour will. If they stood any real chance of winning, they'd be playing it just as cautiously as Labour. I agree the leadership debate was badly moderated. I got the impression that Starmer was still playing by Parliaments rules out of habit. When you spend your life confronted by that bawling baboon, Sunak and having to restrain yourself from calling him an evil, vicious liar, it must be quite hard to adjust to freedom to say what you want.

If Hitler and Mussolini were around today, I will gurantee Question Time would have both of them on every single week.

When Boris Johnson was ill with covid from rubbing himself off sick people after he was told not to do that, I thought him dying might save thousands of lives. Then I looked up who would replace him and what they were like and I saw it was Dominic Raab. Then I wished Bojo a speedy recovery.

I really hope Max is wrong about Farage winning Clacton. He is so polarizing & toxic at this point. The Tories had a 24,000 vote majority in Clacton from 2019, but recent polls in the constituency suggest Labour + Conservatives are running quite even. I think it is his last roll of the dice to remain relevant, & Reform have little bearing on Labour (unlike Ukip perhaps, who could pick up a few Labour votes in their time). Keir Starmer even gave a speech to Labour "red-wall" voters saying he doesn't want their votes if they're thinking of voting for Reform. Labour's version of the Tory-ERG will be about 80-100 MPs forming the "Labour Movement for Europe". The tone could shift dramatically in the next Parliament, especially if the pro-Europe Lib Dems can be the main party of opposition.

"Engage!" A tribute there to Start Wreck, as Brexit could be repackaged for sci-fi fans.

If Sunak tries any harder, he is going to be dropped for More-daunt, bring it on !

Subsidising private healthcare. Thats already happening, particularly in Northern Ireland, where the health service will give people credit towards the cost of private surgery in the republic of Ireland. And then Streeting is outright stating he gonna do the same thing. Meanwhile all pathology services in Northern Ireland are about to be changed to a private sector commissioning service. So an enormous part on the NI health service is going to be carved off and handed to a company like Randox or Serco! Please talk about this! The system that we're being warned about is already well underway in the UK. This is why its important to stop the "nurses and doctors" way of talking about the NHS. Because they can pick apart the parts of the nhs that aren't doctors and nurses, and its doesn't capture public attention. Just take a moment and imagine your cancer testing and diagnosis is being carried out by Randox or Serco.

Very enjoyable episode. At various points when you were discussing the dullness of the Sunak vs. Starmer TV head to head (personality wise), I was reminded of the 1970s TV series "I didn't know you cared". (An aptly named title if ever there was one for these political debates). Anyway, the memory that flooded back to me was that of Uncle Mort (played by Robin Bailey) describing some inauspicious event as being akin to watching Jack Bodell fight Danny McAlinden for the British (and Commonwealth) heavy weight boxing title. It goes without saying that Nigel Farage's part was, the always complaining, Uncle Mort! 🙂

The baton of the ominous hard-right presence on the horizon of French politics has passed from Le Pen to a rapidly arisen newcomer by the name of Bardella. French nationalism is a very, very serious threat and Macron has bravely risen to the challenge of facing it down by dissolving the French assembly. We have to hope he'll come out on top because with current polled support at 33%, an alarming prospect of a hard right president taking over in 2027 is now tangible.

Do such 📺 debates encapsulate our confrontational opposing divisional antiquated parliamentary establishment endorsed by our higher esteemed nobles and ultimately our 👑monarch? I left to be an expat as 3x the pay as a physics teacher (I save more that I could earn in UK), less hours, less stress, more respect, better healthcare, better roads! And rivers/seaside isn't full of sewage. when I return to UK every year I increasingly feel like its a 3rd world country. I even feel scared now I will fall sick as takes 3 weeks for my mum to get a GP appointment. 3rd world England. No wonder people are attracted to the 'poundland Trump'

IMO it's entirely possible that Farage will win in Clacton. But I don't think that's a good thing, because he could end up becoming leader of the Tory Party. I agree with Max, that were this to happen, Labour could well be pulled ever further to the right, just like the Tories have been.

I don't understand how UBI works on the larger scale, i see how it works on the small trials, but on the large scale it would just seem to lead to devaluing the currency and driving up inflation. i'm not saying i'm against it, i'm just saying i don't understand the calculations, i would love a short explainer if anyone can recommend a link or write something in the comments. 👍🏻
