Join me in this informal Facebook Live broadcast as I paint an intimate forest landscape inspired by a Fall trip to New England. This is an UNEDITED iPhone video. It is not perfect but I have had requests for me to add my informal live demos to my youtube channel. I hope you find it helpful! More videos and pastel interaction are available on my Patreon page. www.patreon.com/karenmargulis

The painting is beautiful but it seems the camera may have been a little out of focus and also close enough to see and appreciate the last and final markings. Thanks for the demo Karen …

Sorry about that. This was a much older video done as a live so these things happen.

I really did enjoy your demo. I'm not a pastel painter but I'm enjoying watching and learning! I think I'm going to give it a try! Thanks.

Hi Karen, I have been enjoying your tutorials and am always learning new techniques. I would like to also paint Plein Air and wonder if you can tell me the source for the portable pastel organization boxes? I appreciate your help. Monica

Thank you Karen, that was inspiring. I haven't the confidence to paint an autumn scene although I'd love to.

Karen do you think you should wear a mask while painting with pastels. I notice your voice is slightly strained and faint and you clear your throat and cough all the time. Sorry I am so blunt but from what I’ve read the pastels are as toxic as paint and shouldn’t get into your lungs. Concerned! That said I truly enjoy your work. Delightful to watch. Learn so much from you.

You have inspired me to go back to painting in pastels after many years of oils & acrylics. I am enjoying it so much. I appreciate your generous instruction & gentle manner very much. Thank you.

Hi Karen, I have a couple of questions. How can I switch my mind to the more simplistic view that I will need in order to paint landscapes? By that, I mean fewer details and a little more abstract. I am really struggling (I am very new to pastel painting and any form of art at all - only a couple of months in) with trying to put every detail I can into the painting and what can sometimes be an okay effort, suddenly gets all messed up because I try to put too much in the way of details in. Does this just come with practice? Also, do you paint ocean, beach scenes? Or mountains? Have you any tutorials for someone like me on shadows etc? Many thanks, please keep up with the Sunday Studios, they are super awesome! :)

TheAmoffett13 there are lots of things but one to try is make your reference photos out if focus so you can’t see detail. Use the out of focus photos to start the painting!

this time the audio is echoing and many times inaudible

kirt lapham sorry about that! I just tested on my phone and it seems fine but this was an older video done on my phone so that might explain the issue. Thanks for watching!

Hey Karen, I got my first small set of Terry Ludwig's and I was really excited to use them, but they seem to be crumbling to tiny pieces when I use them. They're so expensive, I hate to keep losing so much of my sticks. Any advice?

Lauren L hi Lauren I'm not sure what to tell you. I've been using TL pastels for years without crumbling. If I press hard they might break but with a regular light touch they are fine. It does require a light touch though!
