I’m a lifelong Toscano smoker and love every variation of them. FYI: The three Toscana pipe blends actually do taste like the cheroots. So maybe worth a try.

Glad you are enjoying the toscanos. I've been smoking them more and more lately because they are less fidley than the pipe while driving and out and about. The relightability of them is also a factor. If I get back to it within a few hours they don't seem to suffer any ill effects especially if you purge the cigar before you put it down.

Savinelli makes acrylic tips/holders. I just recently got one. It works very well and same width as the pipe bits. Still need to clean it after each smoke. Allows me to smoke them very slowly using the breath or in my opinion, normal pipe smoking method.

One small but essential tip about toscanos: it's not about keeping them humidified, it's about keeping them dry. You smoke them in a humid environment and they quickly become harsh, bitter and tongue bitey. The draw also becomes too constricted. Might be just me, but it seems the drier they are the better they smoke. Glad you're enjoying them, they are my favourite smoke i wouldn't trade them for anything. They are very easily available and affordable here in Europe.

Grammar: I'm originally from a small town toward the West Coast, and I now live in central Nebraska. Something that jumps out at me in Nebraska is "I have ran" and "I have went." Even highly educated Nebraskan say those. It's a colloquial habit rather than wrong. As one who originated on the West Coast, I'm guilty of one of these grammatical oddities. I don't "lie down." I "lay down." I'm never "lying down." I'm "laying down." Yes, it's wrong, but I can't make myself say it the right way because of where I'm originally from. (He says, ending the sentence in a preposition.)

At age 44, I did see an increased recovery time for injuries. Then I switched to a carnivore diet. I've been on it a year now, and holy moly did deleting carbs ever have a crazy impact on me. I now don't feel a day over 30, and my injury recovery time has dropped considerably (among other countless improvements). I used to be skeptical, but I'm now a total believer in it. I'll never go back.

I definitely feel you about falling off of gaming or any hobby due to being bummed out. I thought Red Dead 2 was going to be my last foray into gaming as nothing has captured me since, until a co-worker turned me onto a game called Kingdom Come Deliverance. I've been totally enamored with it for months, and it reinvigorated my interest. As a history buff, it could be right up your alley. Check it out if you haven't already. In the spirit of being pedantic, the misused verb tenses you're annoyed with are not past participles; they're present perfect tense (e.g. "I have seen that") and past perfect tense (e.g "I had seen that"). A past participle is not a tense, but rather a past tense verb form used as an adjective (e.g. " a beaten game" or "completed work"). I love your sentiment, though! I too find the misuse annoying! ;-)

Thanks for the excellent content. Languages do evolve. Unfortunately, it seems they also devolve. Are we pedantic for identifying the errors? I don’t think so. Ideas are most effectively shared through precise language. Nails-on-chalkboard for me is “gifted”. The word is an adjective used to describe someone talented, not a verb for the act of giving or receiving a gift. If its use as a verb added some nuance, it might be a useful addition to the lexicon. I just don’t see that it does.

I get that you don't like flavored water and probably won't ever like tea, but I just have to say: you're missing out. I never was a fan of black tea, but the Chinese green and oolong teas can be really good and shouldn't be dismissed outright. Like a good pipe it should be prepared correctly and preferably in loose leaf form.

Potatoes, tomatoes, green peppers (BLECH!) eggplant (also, BLECH!) and tobacco are all part of the nightshade family. Tobacco leaves look like giant tomato leaves--I SEEN an old-timey photo of them drying in a barn. I think when you grow up drinking tea, it's hard to explain to someone who didn't that it's more than just a drink--especially if you're British. P.G. Tips was my (very proper English) mother's favoUrite. It's like the coffee of teas--very strong. And best with milk and sugar, then it's called "Builder's tea." Re: Goo Goo Dolls. We will have to agree to disagree. You kinda threw in a Pearl Jam vibe with your rendition, tho. That could be a new segment; a rendition of a song from viewers favourite bands. Oooh! Do The Cure, next. 🙂

I like to say that simple past is "past", whereas past participle is "past-past" :-). Not sure if that makes sense. Also, a natural (wrapper) burning stick is just called "natural", not "naht-ur-ahl" or however that should be written phonetically. I've been reading a series of fantasy RPG-based novels and the author has a really entertaining style: good characterization, narrative progression, etc. But he lacks certain usage basics that drive me batty; he doesn't know the difference between "lay" and "lie", nor does he conjugate either of them correctly, LOL. Oh well, I still read him.

Quit bragging. For the majority of us over 40 folks getting out of bed hurts. But honestly there is a whole discussion as to the reasons why that is. Yes reasons, as in plural. I don't think it's any one thing that causes the breaking down of a human body, though age does play a role.

Bradley, oh, man, where do I start? I'm a daily listener to National Public Radio, and have been for years, but in just the last couple of years, I've been horrified by the grammar of some of their reporters. And one of the most grating examples of bad grammar is intentional. The third-person singular pronouns, he and she, have been replaced with the third-person plural, "they." That's a political hornet's nest, but it shouldn't be. In highschool, I had two teachers who were world class--my tenth-grade English teacher (who is still sharp as a tack at 96) and my eleventh-grade American History teacher. My English teacher devoted one day a week to grammar and syntax, which included diagramming sentences. My history teacher was great, smart and dry. But one morning he came into class and said, "Okay, where was we at?" When he passed away, his former students, including myself, practically broke the funeral home's website with condolences and praise. My point is this: No matter how good one's education, or how intelligent he or she may be, the grammar one uses was learned very early at home. Great show today!
