Location is Lough Erne Co. Fermanagh N.Ireland during WWII. RAF Castle Archdale was the base and some of my better informed friends will be able to identify the squadron as they changed frequently during the war years. This is exceptional footage.

@Graham Cook as far as I am aware permission was granted for a small corridor of airspace to be used directly west to the Atlantic which saved those precious extra miles of fuel. I believe it was a Catalina out of RAF Castle Archdale that spotted the Bismarck and led to it's successful attack and sinking. There is a small RAF museum at Castle Archdale if you are ever in that area.

@Graham Cook a secret agreement between the RAF and Irish Government for permission to fly along the Donegal corridor is more accurate

My dad's uncle was a crew member of a Sunderland flying boat in WW2. Sadly, drowned saving a child in the last month of the war.

What a superb movie. A unique snapshot in time of this superb British Arcraft. If this is Castle Archdale, it is eather fitting that the aircraft were built in Belfast.

There should be a Short Sunderland (and Stirling) to view in Northern Ireland where they were built. We need such examples of our engineering heritage to encourage our current kids to believe in themselves, and hopefully create a new technical engineering base in N.I. I dont think many if any Stirlings exist, but theres a few Sunderlands still around. One belongs in Northern Ireland.
