Some shallow water sailing through the berry islands. I set off from Little Whale Cay between two shallow banks in the lee of the Berrys, to find a deserted beach on the tip of whale cay. A perfect day.
I have the spars for a snark lateen rig. Just wondering - do lateen sails have draft or are they flat and the draft is provided by the slack between the upper and lower spars? Is the draft provided by curved edges or sewn into the seams of the sail?
If I understand your question correctly, the draft is provided by the slack between the spars. When you pull in the sheet, you're also pulling in the lower spar which take the draft out of the sheet.
I was sailing through very shallow water with banks of sand that would reduce the depth to around two feet. To avoid digging the dagger board into these banks I had to adjust the height. Not very common but necessary in these waters at low tide!
