It makes me feel better that it's not his first time listening to it and after listening countless times I can't play any part of it, yeah I'll just continue to listen
@@pR0ManiacS he says "I haven't played this song but the intro" so he's played the intro/main riff. I'm not disparaging the guy, he's a legend. Have watched him since he was a child.
@@casuallabour665 ahh but the intro he said. I honestly misheard, we're all happy that he continued on yt and we could acknowledge his evolution. As a guitarist and as a person.
actually it makes the song easier as it's not difficult for an experienced guitar player to incorporate and it helps him stay in rhythm. it would only be difficult if you've never done it before.
@@axelvanhulst i mean yeah hes not reading and still remember the song and thats impressive but hes not learning the song by ear, not even an aboslute pitch guy can play the exact same digitation at that speed with just knowing the song, he obviously already knew a bit of the song, still amazing execution btw
@@bnjabravo "not even an aboslute pitch guy can play the exact same digitation at that speed" - an absolute pitch guy can hear every note no problem just like you can hear English(or your native language) at any speed even like 2x. An experienced AP "guy" can hear notes in such bpms as even 400bpm 4ths. So it is a skill issue whether he can play it or not. It is still playing by ear, because he didn't look at any tabs (probably even before).
He is definitely godlike at guitar. But there's no way this is the first time he has played or listened to the song. Some songs are pretty easy to just pick up and mimic after a first listen, but this insane proggy shit is just impossible to transpose via ear on your first listen. This only applies to the main intro riff. The other riffs that he's playing after could very well be transposed after a first listen because it's much simpler.
@@maximooze3196 There's just no way you're able to listen to a riff like this once and transpose it instantly with 0 error. Everything is correct, down from the augmented chords to the weird syncopated notation and random arpeggios. You can hear the parts that he's playing for the first time in this video, being the sections after the main riff. How do you hear it's the first time he played it? Because he does alot of mistakes and plays it wrong. He knows what scale the song is in though so he can improvise the skill in 4/4 instead. But the main riff which is, probably 5 times harder and more complex he plays pretty much flawlessly. It's really telling.
@@henrikswanstrom9218 Its harmonically straightforward and the melody is completely diatonic. I was able to guess the chords first try when I played just based on music theory and experience AND I don't have good chops. It's seems realistic this guy could get this far on one listen .
I been following him for years...and I stopped watching all his videos because he is too good. But its hilarious how good he is to just pick up a difficult song like this in no time. Sungha is the the best fingerstyle guitarist
For everyone who doubts Sungha Jung for his talent to arrange a song that quickly. You can watch his other YT channel where he arranged IDOL by Yoasobi. He did it live when one fan donated and challenged him to do it.
@@Heihachi8 lol did you even try to understand my comment 😂 Of course I know it wasn't his 1st attempt. My comment is for the guys who doubt his arrangement skills and that's why I referred them to one of Sungha Jung's videos.
Yes, i was actually the one that requested him to play this song where he learned about it. He played the intro and a bit of the bridge If you’re in the western hemisphere and catch one of sungha’s livestreams its really easy to get him to play a song you like since many comments wont be in english except for yours 😂
ok, so I think is the most musical genius moment I have ever seen. He listens to that insane minute long part of the song and plays it from memory!!!??? I can't express how impressed I am, you are one of the most talented people I have ever watched.
He didn’t learn it on the spot. This is him revisiting it. He’s read and learned it through the official music sheet. But he hasn’t played it very long. I think he practiced it a few times and kinda stopped. Very impressive still
@@joshuawinters6591 not the official sheet, fingering is different from the original song, so likely he just learned by ear which is not surprising if he had enough time
I don’t think this is his first time listen to the song. He said at 0:25, “I haven’t play the song but the intro”. So he already listen to the song already because he knows how to play the intro.
@@johnrackham8429 How is it a misleading title? The title just says he's trying to play Playing God by Polyphia and a must watch. You mean the description of the video. 2 entirely different things.
For those who say "OMG how talented" or "pure talent," the truth is that it takes years of grinding and playing every day for at least 2 hours.... the only talent in playing a musical instrument is hearing, and the ability to differentiate notes - and even that takes time -
People don’t understand how hard the outro is. You think the main riff is hard until you actually sit and learn it. Then you realize that the outro is what makes that song such a right of passage for players.
@@Kokojamrig thank you for noticing.. now i remember.. on 2006, my age was 16 years old when I found his video playing guitar on youtube.. this year i am 33 years old. I still remember at my age of 16 years old.. there was 1 kid from Korea playing guitar much much better than me..and still its amazed me and i stop playing guitar since then.. 😆
The ending is why I love learning how to play certain songs myself. Adding my own strum pattern or little style of playing the song so it sounds different is my life blood. So good.
I'm actually learning a lot watching how you piece this together. I take it you're finding a chord and adding embellishments to it as you go, much more quickly than most people I'd admit but I can see what's going on. Cool to see you add your own techniques with the chord embellishments, wish I can come up with ideas that quick on the fly.
That's what we call musicality/musicianship. It's an efficient, locked in/well oiled mind-machine. Now getting the body to follow that quickly, THAT'S the hangup for most people I think
His reaction to Tim's guitar playing is like seeing guitar playing from another world he looked stunned....... America have very talented musicians.. like Fleetwood Mac .. classical guitarist Steve Edwards...now his own flamenco band guitar azull... Many more
i knew there was a reason i used to watch all his stuff back like 10-12 years ago..... used to try to play some of his versions of sungha's stuff. crazy to hear it for like 30 seconds and get that close to perfect....
@@UtkarshShrivastava-pf9vk Yes, really. He's said it earlier himself in the stream. He's tried/practiced it about a month and some change prior. Not to denounce him or anything. I'm just saying he didn't exactly go in unaware of chords. This is him coming back to it
He said: "I haven't played this song but the intro" This very clearly shows that he already learned some of the intro before unless he misspoke because he's not fluent in English...
he literally did better than I ever could with the official tabs and all the time in my life in just 7 minutes also it's kind of funny how sungha is literally doing the impossible and chat is just spamming river flows lol
So....this is amazing, and one thing I'm sure he's doing is watching their playing in the video. If you're at this level of fingerstyle guitar, just watching someone's hands is like 75% of the job of learning the song.
Jesus I've been wondering if this guy was still around because i completely forgot his name. Started watching him at least 10 years ago when he was tearing up a guitar as a child. Glad to see he's still got it
first time i saw sungha he was playing the howls moving castle theme as just a little guy. was blown away then, glad to see he just kept moving ahead. very gifted and hard working player. daaaamn man.
Bro wtf, I haven’t played guitar in over a decade. But I remember this kid, “california dreams” was the first cover I heard him play. Ik there was something special ab this dude. Damn actually kind blown, dude left that hood of an impression I remember him this long after wtf??…
The way he just stares blankly into the camera after ripping the sequence like 5 times, then proceeds to improvise over the Bossa Novva in the background like nothing happened 😂
So much talent and hard work, genius! Been playing for 35 years and would love just having 0.00001 of his talent.

i remember when he posted one of his first videos while we were in elementary music school everyone went crazy in class 15 years later he is as crazy as ever
Damn he is still better than me ahaha. At least I can feel better about it now that he isn’t 10 lol. But I remember seeing this guy come up on YT. Glad to see you still creating man! You’re incredibly talented and hardworking!
I just watched 3 other very good guitar players and teachers being stumped by Henson's amazing playing, and also seen how Playing God is arguably called the most difficult guitar riff. And then Sungha listens to the intro ONCE and picks out like 90-95% of the intro just like that; like it was the easiest song ever. I have not been surprised and mind-blown this much since I saw Dimash for the first time. To think you were that 11 year old boy I had the fortune to meet, and now you are here basically in God mode!
I've been listening to Sungha's covers for YEARS and not until 10/16/2023 did I know the dude can speak English, and very well. I assume when you can completely master the guitar, leasrning english must be a walk in the park.
As a guitarist I dnt even needed to think that you've tried it before or not? The way you played the song and the accuracy of your finger picking notes is just out of this world, You are just one in a million! Lots of love and support from northeast India
I'm...lol... not surprised...I haven't kept up, but you have thankfully... I have a number of your older, but younger performances singly and with fellow Name Players... Very Glad your still hear and playing~
This is the fastest way to learn.. by listening and knowing where the sound is generally coming from. It's discipline.. focus.. it's not easy.. mine is memory. I have a very good memory.. always wanted a photographic memory.. so cool. Good job bud.
It's not his first time though. He's sadi this explicitly. This is him coming back to to it after some time(a month as two) trying/practicing to play it before
I use to watch you back in the days when you were just a young fella😂🤘 your grown up now good to see you still jamn brother..1 of my favourites I use to enjoy you playing when you were a kid was PIRATES OF CARRIBBEAN 🤘💯your playing god cover sounds awesome 💯 you still got it
Dont get me wrong he is literally insane, but it is impossible for him to have got it that perfectly that quickly. He's heard the song before Still completely insane how he figured the rest out but talent like hearing playing god for the first time then playing it like that doesn't exist, this guy sure as hell comes close though.
It's insane to me that people are saying he's playing the intro after one listen. At the end of the video, he plays parts of the song that aren't in the clip he heard. That doesn't take away from his talent at all, he's incredible. But it's borderline inconceivable that he'd learn the fingering by ear (especially on the extensions) and literally impossible for him to learn parts of the song by ear without hearing them.
@@humanmerelybeing1966to be fair some people with perfect pitch can perfectly recreate songs by ear with some music theory too. That said, people did mention Sungha has learned the intro before
He has the official music sheet for the song. But it’s crazy impressive that he learns fast and reads fast to the point where he plays in the original tempo
He's looking at the video and pretty sure has tabs but with tabs and being able to read it you can learn fast especially since this man's been playing since kid
Maybe you are still a kid but this dude is a legend. It is obvious he didn't use any tab since he is live and people are requesting him to listen and play the songs by ear right away. The tabs needs to be bought and all which would take lots of time. Plus you heard him doing the progression then stopping to go back to listen to the song. He knows his instrument by heart.
Honestly, with all these guitar players sprouting out of nowhere in RU-vid, it made me think at one point how Sungha Jung is doing. Then here he is. Learning Playing God in one listen. What an absolute legend
